While I don't care for the spectral stuff in Har-Bal, the 'Air' feature is pretty awesome. Is there some VST plug doing the exact same thing?

Thanks,
AF

Out of curiousity, what don't you like about Har-Bal's spectral stuff?

From the harbal homepage:
We are also bringing you Har-Bal Air (Alias LR Thingy)

Har-Bal Air captures the ambient qualities of a stereo track and places it outside the speakers to add a new dimension in listening and gives it the real 3d sound. It's similar to the process they used years ago below:

L new <- L-R
R new <- R-L
If it's really that "similar" it should be a matter of seconds with SE or something.

Sorry kl3in, bit of a language barrier there :)

'Don't care' translates as 'not really needing or mattering much' here, not 'disliking'. I always tend to overlook that nuance.

Plus with it being standalone the integration with a mastering host is cumbersome. I'd just like to instance a VST and get the same effect.

And yep, I heard it's a trick similar to the stereo enhancers out there, playing with phase.

Have a look at Izotope Ozone at www.izotope.com and download the demo and the mastering guide. Stereo imaging i thoroughly described how it is done in up to four frequency bands.

I'm curious as to why Har-Bal turns "Air" off during recording mode. Anyone know? I never thought to as the devs.

I actually really like the air effect in Harbal if used very carefully. It's a great program that can really show you if you're heading in the wrong direction with your mixes. I used it more to learn how to listen to my monitors.
