a question for Reason users...

Can someone tell me if it's possible to layer two components and play them live from one keyboard? For example, NN-XT and Maelstrom as if they were linked by a midi cable.
I don't usually see Reason discussed here, so forgive me for bringing it up, but I know someone here can answer this.
Thanks.

I believe this can be accomplished with the spider merger/spliter that comes since 2.5 and since Reason 3.0 the new combinator would definetly alow this. Hope this helps.

Yes this is possible in V2 or 3. The uppermost device is called Midi-In and this is where you can layer midi inputs. I haven't done it in a while so check in the manual it explains everything.

The audio spider won't help and I don't understand how the cv spider works. What I wouldn't give for a simple midi thru on the backs of these components!

The Combinator is definitely the way to do what it is you are asking. Very flexible for using two sound modules together and layering them.

Ok I got it. In 2.5(which i'm using these days), go to preferences, Advanced, on for the four midi input busses select your midi in that you're going to be using to layer, same input for each one.
Now setup two or three instruments. Let's say we have a subtractor and a maelstrom.
Bus Select A from the Midi-In Device, Channel 1 pull the drop down tab to go to Subtractor
Bus Select B from the Midi-In Device, Channel 1 pull the drop down tab to go to Maelstrom.
For Bus Select A and B you should see your midi device come up cause you set that in the preferences.
They should now be layered.
But yeah this is what the Combinator was for, definitely. Especially since you can save those layers as a preset.
