Does anyone know that the differences are between the EW and PMI versions of Bosendorfer 290 (other than the Kontakt player).
The EW versions seems to be WAY more expensive.

$199 against $50, wtf?

They are the same.. but take my advice, the sound isn't what you're looking for..
You should rather go for Artvista's Virtual Grand Piano http://www.artvista.net/Virtual_Grand_Piano.html

Maybe not. But for $50 it fits well into 'impulse' purchase territory!
Actually, I didnt mind the sound. A little dull up top which is a shame, but it sounded quite realistic. I can imagine it sounding good for stuff like Chopin Waltzes, but not so good for the full Rach grand type sounds.
Iv had a look at the Artvista products, very nice. If I remember correctly there is demo of the Liszt Liebestraume. Sounded pretty good!

yeah, we licensed the Bosendorfer 290 Kontakt content to be used by EW with the NI Kompakt engine and their price is still on the opening level, while our prices have come down drastically in the mean time. Our library needs a software player (like Kontakt, Giga, Exs24 or whatever you have) but the sound is the same.
I think opinions may differ from yours. Over 5.000 buyers appreciate the Bosendorfer290 on a daily basis (let's disregard the others who didn't buy the Bos290 but do use it...) and this piano received more praise and 5 star reviews than any other piano library out there. In terms of realism it's likely the most convincing piano to day, as said by Electronic Musician " This is the piano library to beat!".safeaim wrote: They are the same.. but take my advice, the sound isn't what you're looking for..
The library has two microphone perspectives recorded and although one is called "DRY" in fact is does have some amount of ambience in it which can get in the way when used for some modern music styles.
I prefer to hear a grand piano in it's natural habitat (a nice room, a hall or theatre) and not in a dead space or studio cave.
If you are looking for an ultra-dry pop piano recorded in a dead room, this is not it and there are other piano sample sets that offer this sound.
No matter what, the download for $50 is a no-brainer in my view:

Just another opinion to be taken with a grain of salt. I wound up moving the Art Vista to an external drive along with a lot of other lesser used libraries. I still use the B290 every day. I had the plugin first but wound up getting the Piano Magic bundle. FWIW I'd pick the Old Lady over the Art Vista every time.

For $50 I shall probably just get this and Artvista M. The two will cost me less than the EW version of PMI!
Thanks for the explanation Michiel.
