Hi folks,
I recently realized that my EXS24 will convert soundfonts. What are the absolute best soundfont samples? I noticed that there are some EMU modules in soundfont on ebay. Are those worth it? Any help or tips appreciated...

Geoff

I only use a few soundfounts regularly.

Emu Pure Phatt (Hip Hop sounds)

Proteus 2 (Strings)

NSKit 6 (Drums)

I've read that the stuff on ebay can be repackaged free stuff available on the internet anyway. I did buy the Proteus 1,2,3, Vintage Keys, Planet Phatt and Orchestral Strings soundfonts but don't use them anymore.

It may be worth trying them again though :)

Are they still available commercially? The ebay guy seems like he has repackaged the EMU stuff. Wanna sell yours? Thanks either way for the info.
Regards,
Geoff

You can still get them here http://us.creative.com/products/product ... duct=13590

I still have the original CDs somewhere, but I don't know what condition they are in!

Thanks Philly D!
I just ordered them. Now off to brag to my EMU fanboy friend. He has them all in hardware. Bet they cost him more than a hundred bux! :hihi:
Thanks again,
Geoff
There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres. Pythagoras

Of course you know, the hardware sounds better. ;)

Yeah, sadly the soundfonts have nothing on the hardware. There're a few good presets, though. The mf french horn from the P2 and the hall strings preset from the Proteus 1. mmmm...

I'm not sure how the hardware could sound better in this case guys.. Proteus 1,2 and 3 were the simplest romplers around - no fx and no filters. Actually its possible the soundfonts sound better.

i have EmulaterX studio & that dose keep up to par with the hardware (& better in meny cases :tu: )

The Emulator/Proteus X software is awesome. I just wish it didn't take up so much damn CPU. :(

ya - speaking from experience - I bought the Proteus-X package in hopes of replacing my EMU P2K and XL-1 rack modules. The plugin takes forever to load the Proteus-X sample set, and is a cpu heavy like Ildon mentioned. Plus, doing A-B comparisons, many of the presets just plain sounded better from the hardware units - this all made me decide to keep the rack units afterall, and deal with the PITA of bouncing to audio.

If you like the sound of the classic Rhodes electric piano, you might be interested in my free jRhodes3 soundfonts. No strings attached; enjoy.

Hi Jeff,
From one Geoff to another, thanks for the freebie! I will try them out later this weekend. Do you know of any other freebies like this on the net?
