hi everyone, i recently posted this on the cubase webpage, but no one got a chance to get back to me about it.
Just wanted to give it a shot here and see if any of you guys have any clue as to why this keeps happening:

hi
i have actually experienced this for the past 4 years in Cubase SX, and now on SX3, but ive never bothered asking so im gonna get this off my chest for once and for all....
I've noticed on numerous plugins i have (Absynth, Gmedia, Novation plugins), that if im working on a project, program a patch and adjust the volume to 5, if i save the project and relaunch the project later, the volume knobs on some of the VST's are cranked full blast to 10.
I've done some investigation, and it seems like the problem persists on VST instruments that have the voluume set to 10 as part of the preset.
For example, if i load up a Novation V-station plugin and play with a preset that already has volume set to full blast, if i change that volume to 1, relaunch Cubase later, the volume is set back to 10 even though i saved it as part of the project with Volume 1.
This happens to ALL of my VST synths that have the volume knob on full blast as part of the preset.
Originally i thought it may have been a bug with some of the plugin companies and ive already spoken and emailed numerous companies aboutt the issue but all of them say they will "look into it".
Im not quite sure if this is a bug in part of the VST companies, or perhaps its a bug in Cubase SX, OR it might even be a setting in Cubase itself that i have overlooked over the years.
Someone recently suggested it may have someting to do with an SX3 setting, where after relaunching a project, Cubase will automatically reset certain midi CC parameters, but in the preference menu i could find no such option to tick or untick.
Can someone please explain as to what this problem might be? I will be pleasantly surprised if its just a simple feature that i have to turn off in SX3 as it has been bothering me for the past few years.
cheers

Why not create a new preset (or save the existing one) with altered volume?
Or indeed: lower the volume on the CuBase track instead of on the instrument.

My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

And this does only affect volume and NO other plugin parameters?
I have never encountered this.. will try right now.
edit:
I just tried with latest cubase and MS-20: problem does not show up. And I really doubt this can be cubase's fault, I don't think cubase distinguishes any parameters it saves for a plugin.
When all of the parameters reset this is a special behaviour with some plugins in Cubase SX: you need to select the patch from cubase's inspector, and not from inside the plugin (which does not report the patch-change correctly to the host)

I'm not 100% sure about this but it sounds to me like the volume knobs on the synths you are using are set to CC7 which is the standard MIDI volume controller. When you load your project there will be a conflict because of this since the value is set to 5 (or 64 in midi terms) in the plugin, while it's set to 100 on the MIDI channel in Cubase mixer.
So the value in the mixer will override the value in the plugin causing the volume to be increased. I'm guessing all you need to do is to change the volume on the MIDI channel in Cubase mixer instead of changing it in the plugin.

Try to enable automation for the track, you know...the 'read' button.
And if that doesn't help make an automation point in the....ehhh automation lane allso, then it should work.
But remember if you want to change the volume later you must do it in the automation lane for the track.

the volume fader on the mixer would probably be the better way of solving problems.....This has been bugging me for years! I dont know why i overlooked at such a simple solution!
