Have you ever wanted a mastering compresssor that was dead-easy to use? A compressor that just made things louder without having to worry about the best Ratio, Attack, and Release settings for a specific task? A compressor that didn't over-compress attack transients, robbing your track of all the excitement of explosive hits? A compressor that was downright freaky looking?

Well, Pressure is the compressor for you. Using a technique called upward compression, Pressure increases the level of quiet portions in a mix without reducing the level of attack transients like a traditional compressor. There are just 3 parameters: Amount of compression, look-ahead, and gain control. It couldn't be easier.

Pressure is free, so enjoy!

It certainly looks fun.
I'll try it out. Interesting concept, too.

Thanks, there are also interesting articles on your site!

Thanks, will try it.

Is this similar to the upward compression IIRs used in his IQ4gui he released last year?

Thanks for sharing.

I daren't try this plug-in for fear of getting nightmares from that GUI!

:hihi:

OK, tried it. I must say it doesn't sound like a mastering compressor to me at all yet it does something that I might find useful on certain tracks (bass comes to mind).
The weird thing is that I compared the sound of my tune through pressure with a very analog-tapeish sounding song (Mates of State) and although the character of pressure is too noticable for a mastering app it did give my song a very similar kind of tapeish feeling to it.
It's very warm sounding but also very messy as it did some weird stuff to the high end.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm pretty happy with it, I just thing now you've got two different apps ahead of you: this one as a very coloured compressor/saturator and the perfected version of this one as a mastering compressor...so, great!

thanks a lot :)

I haven't used IQ4gui, so I'm not sure, but yes, I would imagine it's a similar technique...

The "mastering" bit is really more of a reflection that using a look-ahead makes it somewhat difficult to use in a multitrack mix, as real-time look-aheads use a buffer that creates a time-delay. If you use the look-ahead (which can be disabled by turning it all the way down), along with mild compression (it's not necessary to really crank up the compression with Pressure to get a nice sound), I think the sound of the compressor is reasonably transparent. The saturation that you're experiencing might just mean that you need to turn the gain control down a bit. But yeah, it's not a 100% transparent mastering compressor. It gives a bit of it's own feel to your tracks. Glad you like it, though. :)

As soon as I loaded this I realised it was Synthmaker because there seem to be a wierd text issue that I've also seen when using Synthmaker myself. The text often appears stretched or resizes for no apparent reason:

Another example:

Here's the same thing happening in Synthmaker, proving that it's not your fault it's definately a bug:

I've been meaning to report this at the Synthmaker forum but I've been busy.

It's probably a case of a "missing font" being used, but I'm not entirely sure :)

Post

Looking at the font used in the "wave draw" module in Synthmaker I'd say that you are probably right. In my copy it's using "Saturday Night BRK" which is unlikely to be the chosen font. Any idea which font it's supposed to be?

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have Synthmaker restrict available fonts to windows fonts only unless you select "all available fonts" somewhere as an option? At least then you'd know your project would look the same on other people's machines. Or perhaps there should be a warning when saving to VST along the lines of "non-standard fonts used. Continue with save anyway?"

ezeeboogie,

it's fairly easy to maintain font compatibility, since you are the only one who can add non-standard fonts to your modules. It's an operator error I'd say. A feature, not a bug.
