while threads like this are a great resource for acquiring specific effects, it would be nice if all of the users of these effects (and synths etc. in other threads) would get down to the WHYs certain programs are their favorites. come on people... post REVIEWS of these programs in the review section. i've looked programs that half a dozen people recommended there only to find zero reviews for alot of the programs.

the reviews don't have to be as in depth as many are there, just post a brief description eg.
"i like kuso synth because it's great at making those cheesy 'toy synth' tones that few other synths can do. it does have a bit of digital edge to it, but with some bitcrushing and/or tube warming it can add a distintive flavor to your tracks"

i don't actually have kuso (or even a new PC yet), but i loved the demo of that program for the reasons stated. very few programs offer demo mp3s. i see the KVR crowd as my eyes and ears through the massive freeware maze so PUHLEEESE chat it up people. tell us WHY you love that off the beaten path program that no-one else seems to be using.

if i had any actual hands on experience with ANY program (other than audacity) i'd post a review. hmmmmmmm... maybe i should see if there are any reviews for that. i've done alot with that little goody on a dinosaur running 98se.

perhaps it should be added to this thread as it has onboard effects (the reverb isn't great) despite being primarily a sound editor DAW. manually erasing ticks and pops out of my vinyl in the sound editor window is a great effect in my book as i couldn't find any freeware noise reduction units i could get to actually work last year.

thanks a bunch for the resource here everyone, now lets elevate it above the level of dry statistics and get down to the whys.

ok guys, I don't know if you want this, but what I am going to do is download every single one of these, organise them appropriately, and if anyone wants the zip file (it'll be about 200mb) then they'll be able to find it on my sig below (sampletorrents)

If anyone has any objections, or if I find out that the authors of these programs do not wish to have their VST included in this torrent I shall remove it.

The responsibility is YOURS to read the license agreements of each and every product you are attempting to repackage. NOT on us developers to discover that you're doing it and attempt to stop you if it's in violation of the license. Which for OUR products it certainly is.

At the very least, you should contact each developer by email to get permission for this. This is what the professional magazines who want to include software CDs and DVDs do. And you can skip Admiral Quality, you explicitly do NOT have our permission to repackage or redistribute any of our products, free or not.

Of course, but I did state that "if I find out that the authors of these programs do not wish to have their VST included in this torrent I shall remove it."

I was in a rush when I posted that so let me rephrase..

I will be asking every author for their permission on this BEFORE I submit, so no worries there.

Also, I'd like to say that I've always wanted something like this, a properly packaged, freeware VST package, containing every type of VST a musician may want to use.

Post

OK. Just reminding you as yes, I did interpret your post as you if were leaving it up to us to hopefully discover this thread and let you know if it's not OK.

I think there already is a proper freeware VST package by the way. It's the KVR database. And you just download the ones you want instead of a big blob of mostly unwanted stuff. And that way, us developers can get download stats, which is pretty valuable info for us and the main reason AQ doesn't want others distributing our products.

Cheers.

Even with permission, that just seems like a bad idea...I mean, the compilation would go out of date pretty quickly, as a lot of free plugins get updated from time to time...

Of course, but what better way to get a batch of free plugins to test them out all at the same time?

It's so annoying having to find all free plugins in all the different sites, sometimes the servers are slow on their hosting, sometimes the links down, sometimes the whole doesn't work and/or bad navigation, it's just a pain in the ass...

Exactly, thanks for proving my point.

Notice how you click on a link to one of them, and you have to go through the aweful process of finding the VST on their own website and sometimes the servers are slow on their hosting, sometimes the links down, sometimes the whole site doesn't work and/or bad navigation.

Post

no, you didn't get my point.
there are more than 540 pages each one containing 100 plug-ins, that makes it more than 54,000 VSTs...

You get it now?
