Have you ever wanted a mastering compresssor that was dead-easy to use? A compressor that just made things louder without having to worry about the best Ratio, Attack, and Release settings for a specific task? A compressor that didn't over-compress attack transients, robbing your track of all the excitement of explosive hits? A compressor that was downright freaky looking?

Well, Pressure is the compressor for you. Using a technique called upward compression, Pressure increases the level of quiet portions in a mix without reducing the level of attack transients like a traditional compressor. There are just 3 parameters: Amount of compression, look-ahead, and gain control. It couldn't be easier.

Pressure is free, so enjoy!
Quite a creative UI :) You win the vote for the most disturbing pots :) It's cute, going to try it out.

Love the GUI. Brilliant actually. Sounds good on drum loops. Will try on entire mixes shortly. Nice job!

:) Where did you find the human head graphic or did you build it yourself using some 3D renderer? It looks disturbing too :)

The process seems decent but it crackles quite a bit. Also how did you make minihost change background colors? My minihost turned pea-soup-green when I tested this :) The only setting that doesn't crackle too badly is Very Light Compression.

Without look ahead, a compressor is forced to react as quickly as it can to an incoming signal. There are some physical impossibilities as far as a compressor's attack being completely instantaneous, so a look ahead buffers the audio a bit, giving the compressor some extra time to react. This is most helpful in a mastering situation, when audio can be delayed a bit with a buffer, without introducing any timing issues. If you use a look ahead in a multitrack mix, it will move that track back a bit relative to the rest of the channels in the mix.

It shouldn't crackle at all. It doesn't crackle at all for me in Cubase SX3, even with everything turned all the way up. Are you just using it in Minihost? My guess is that you need to turn the gain control (the knob in the upper right or Pressure) down a bit. If you're sending out a signal that's greater than 0dB, there's a good chance your audio will crackle (whether or not you're using Pressure), unless your host has a built in limiter on the output bus.

I made it using Blender 3D, a free 3D modeling program.
Also how did you make minihost change background colors?
Magic. 8)

Thanks, all!

If that's the case (my memory is too bad to say for sure) it's something missing in SM at the moment - but surely will be added before V1.0 release :)

How about a demo for More Pressure?
