I am pretty new to the music software department. currently i gig as a one man band on cocktail parties and such.
I am thinking of building a little homestudion to program my own styles (yes as a one man band i use styles, not allways, but a lot, because its so easy polaying and more flexible then playing with a midi style as backup)using a program called One man band.
Now all this program needs is a vst host. ntohing fancy with a lot of sequencing, but just a way to access my vst instruments in an easy way. (as the OMB program will do my sequencing) and maybe to route my voice microphone thrue a sofware vocoder and some effects.
For the future i might decide to start gigging with my software set-up, but first i want to get accustomed to it.

It can be used as a VST host, a Live tool, a sequencer, an effects rack....etc. etc.
And it's CHEAP!!!!!!!!

I am considering Energy XT to widen my capabilites. However, I have been an FL Studio user for 6 years. What attracted me to it (besides teh price) was that I was able to qucikly learn how to use it without much reading. Most of what I learned was by studying sample files.

There are FL users who utilize XT as a VST effects/instruments rack since it is capable of being a VST itself. Or you can just load FL within Energy. And yes, it is a quick learning host. Once you get the basics and start using it more and more, you come across all these easter eggs and that's what makes it exciting.
The beauty with it aside from the cost is it's always handy when it comes to complex routing, synth layering or utilizing MIDI plugs.
I myself use Live as my main weapon and it is useless for MIDI plugs (cant do it). Energy solves this for me.
I am awaiting version 2. It may be my new all in one weapon. It is very close in becoming that.

I didn't find either eXT or FL easy to learn at all. Sure, its relatively easy to do the very basics but once you want to delve into it fully you need a lot of patience to find things.
You might find ORION's fairly simple live features, like Pattern Sets, handy for the kind of work you describe and its actually very easy to work with if you're used to the way things are done in the real world.

Orion is definitely easy to come to grips with. Easier than EXT in some ways. But, everyone works in different ways and though some may be unable to comprehend this, EXT IMO has the best workflow hands down. I've used Logic, Acid, Nuendo, Cubase, Reason, Vision and currently own Live, Bidule & Ext. Out of all of them, Ext has this flow that i can't explain.MattmaN wrote:Orion is a fairly underratted app.
I always liked the workflow myself.
Aguably one of the best workflows ever developed.
Orion has a nice flow but it doesn't click with me 100%.
To each their own as they say.

I am currently toying around wit Fruity loops, and i realised there is one more thing that i expect from a host, It needs to be able to controll the VST's on a seccond PC too.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Aye sure.....i should have been more clear in what i mean.Kriminal wrote:a big long cable
I am considering many options for my new set-up. One of the options is a wersi OAS piano, thats an instrument that plays native vst's, but only 4 at a time and you'll not be able to plugin any effects.
So now i was thinking of a vst-host (that acts like a vst instrument itself , along the line of V-stack) to run on the Wersi (which is nothing more then a windows XP driven computer) and all my other VST's on a remote computer. so all that i see on the Wersi would be the interface (and an audio return maybe) and my Vst's would run on a sepperate computer (connected as USB2 host, or over an ethernet connection) so my vst's have a full upgradable computer for themselves, and my wersi has the controlls over my plugin instruments on its graphical touchscreen.
This is one of the many things i am considering as my new set-up <though a masterkeyboard/full software set-up will be much cheeper>

eXT's main window is super eay to use. Learning the sequencer and other comps is the hard part, but it really isn't that hard. Just some things are easy to miss and makes you think its hard but, read the manual for any confusion.

I think Fryityloops sucks. You can make better sounding songs even with Renoise. There's just one minus; you can't use dxi in Renoise (at least I think so, but my version is just 1.5).
