well, its similar in thats its a P2P file share, but with torrents, you can only download the one file/torrent, you cant pick what you want to download from another user, so its quite safe

A mature decision! Limewire and Kazaa realy sucks, dude! I will be happy to see that blessed drum library on a ftp. Good look!

I'll try to create a torrent later on. Never did that, and I don't plan to host it on any of the trackers (I mean, this should be an intermediate solution among us KVR folks), so I don't know what it will come out like. I would also have to search for the original source files first (they're already backed up), but as said, I will give it a try in an hour or two or so.

I second Torrent. It's a perfectly legit solution (no one is cracking or stealing a thing), and I can recommend Shareaze as a client. I'll gladly support the distribution as soon as we got a torrent up.

Yeah, a friend of mine told me you need an app like BitTorrent (freeware, I think) to make this happen. I really don't know how to use it, but I'll help out any way I can. Could someone in the know explain how the process works and how to get involved?

Ok, here's the torrent file:

I'm seeding it right now and will probably leave Azureus open overnight.
A few things:
- It'd be great if not all people would grab it at once, with my max. upload speed of 256k it'd take ages until it arrived completely. And as I will leave tomorrow evening for a week of touring, I'd recommend that at least one of you folks would get it completely until then. Maybe you should arrange something.
- Folks who allready got the file and a torrent client: Simply put the files (both the torrent and the full file) into your shared folder, then activate them for seeding (no idea how all the trackers handle things). The torrent is named exactly like the original file, so there should be no problems.
- DON'T spread the torrent to some tracker! Not yet. I may probably be the only person seeding the full file for the next 24 hours, so all you'd do is to shoot yourself in the feet.

I'm quite curious whether this will work.
May I recommend that 1-2 people try to start downloading, then post a reply here whether it's working or not - and after that, no further people should jump onto the download for 1-2 hours, so the spreaded seeding has some time to establish.

Just tried it and nothing is downloading.. had it sit for 10min and nothing happened.. maybe the torrent isn't correct? or? doesn't seem to connect to anything at all... not even a trickle so I doubt it is being sucked down by too many ppl. Ok, FYI
