I was reading in this month's Remix Magazine in the cover feature on the superstar DJ duo Gabriel & Dresden that they are using "IK Multimedia Sonik Synth". I assume that means Sonik Synth 2?
Well anyways I hadn't really heard of these guys before cause i'm typically four years behind every trend(read my post on microhouse for an example), but apparently these guys have remixed some top names like Britney Spears, Jewel, Dido, Depeche Mode, Sarah Maclaughlin, New Order. It made no mention of them using anything like Amplitube or Sampletank2, just Sonik Synth. This seems just about right cause those sounds are perfect for House music.

Sonik Synth 2 is used a lot by DJ, electonic artists, hip hop, R&B producers, writers, performers etc. More than you think! Even I am surprised the more I hear about who it is. A lot of pros really love Sonik Synth 2 because you have sound building blocks. It is very convenient to have all of that in one place. You see more amateurs and semi pro users complain that every preset isn't "Wow I can't believe it's not butter!" but you talk to a pro like Greg Phillenganes or Stevie Wonder or remix guys like Gabriel and Dresden and they know EXACTLY what to do with it. I do too. That said, I want to please everyone so there will be a future update with more WOW patches (like, the impressive swirly atmospheric pad stuff... although there are more in the combi section that some people miss).
When I was in Germany I saw someone do some WICKED stuff with the Sonik Synth 2 loops (that automatically sync to host tempo). They were just bringing them in and out creatively. Actually, the guy that was doing it reps IK in Germany and was a successful electronic artist himself. He did something called "Dune" (dont' know if it is related to Herbert's story or not) but people in Germany seem to know it.
Anyway, thanks for bringing it up. I'll have a look at the article. Always fun to see... apart from IK Mutlimedia's Sonik Synth (with no mention of SR... gets tiring after a while... same with Miroslav Philharmonik when Sonic Reality actually did the sound programming and so often I see no mention of SR... bothers me a bit but I am used to that... at least you guys really know how much of a part of these things that we really are).

Right well that's why I mentioned it cause I read in the other thread that you're paying attention to the nomenclature of the synth these days. It was listed on a selected gear list of the artist. I did just read in another article in that same issue this producer named "Chops" is using Sampletank2 so check that one out too.

Hmmmm.
Either someone is "taking the piss" or someone is a composer who worked on all of those... Mr. Tunes, investigates?

LOL yeah I believe it! It was a damn fine sound collection.
A trip to the IMDB reveals that:
Last Samurai - Hans Zimmer
Open Range - Michael Kamen
Wild Wild West - Elmer and Peter Bernstein(with many licensed tracks)
Finding Nemo - Thomas Newman
The funny thing is all those guys have teams of people underneath them composing who never get credited. I surely wouldnt be happy not even getting an 'additional music by' credit! My guess out of the list of those guys the one that squids has a 6 degrees of seperation from is Kamen. Just my hunch.
