I used to use Waves' Audio Renaissance Vox as the first thing in my vox track chains, and I am very spoiled by the simplicity of its operation. what else is available in the VST format which has comparable functionality?

I'd say Kjaerhus Golden Audio Channel or wavearts Trackplug if you have the dough, and/or Voxengo Voxformer no matter what
Slightly different functionality but all three sound top notch and I find all of them easy to handle for what they offer.
The mind boggles.

Yamaha Vocal Rack. Has a nice sounding overtone module.
