Taken from: http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2005/April/res.php

1024x768 143787653 (56%)
800x600 75356279 (29%)
1280x1024 22007188 (8%)
1152x864 7981809 (3%)
Unknown 4399143 (1%)
640x480 1852239 (0%)
1600x1200 1330362 (0%)

(Note that the two at 0% are rounded down, they are actually a fraction of one percent)
that makes sense..
other statistics show that about 56% of people are idiots

Guys, DPI is meaningless. Project it on the wall and maybe you'll get 1 DPI. But if your wall is 1280 inches wide that will be fine.

I'm sitting 3 feet away from a 17" LCD and can read everything (at least everything that I'd need to read.) Also... one more time... IT WILL HAVE PRECISE PARAMETRIC READOUT, SCAMP-STYLE, AT THE TOP.

And again, sorry to those who's systems aren't up to it, but I'm designing this for tomorrow's computers. Not yesterday's. Although I'm working on a 4+ year old box myself. 533MHz FSB and RAM. And I'm not planning to upgrade just to support this project, so there's a minimum target spec for you... I'm obviously not going to make something too CPU hungry for me to even test. And I'm sitting 3 feet away from a 17" screen and I can read everything (that I would need to read).

I did check it out on another monitor that I have that has really low gamma. Definitely a problem there, and I'll be addressing that with a high contrast skin, and/or the pixel font skin.

You'll see. But again just to reiterate the niche I want this product to occupy: The ONLY thing economical about this synth will be it's price. Everything else will be as power/screen hungry as I can stand to make it (...he says while busy outputting 288 images of the 61 keys in each of their 8 possible shadow states... please sweet death, come rescue me from this... )

;)

(P.S. Diverdee... 18 items on the selector knobs. But if you can read the selected one (ENV1) that's fine. The rest is just for mouse-grabbing and visual immersion/continuity gravy. I don't expect you to be able to read the items that are UPSIDE DOWN. But you'll see them coming as you turn the control, and... it's fun! :) At least I like it.)

Well, I happen to think its an amazing GUI! Quite a work of art - the whole retro-style of this is really cool, and the 3D-look is a masterstroke too. Can't say I've seen too many synths that have such a well implemented 3D-look as this.

I like the big, round silver knobs - they suit this synth. I don't see any hint of fuzziness in the lettering either (perhaps thats been fixed since the original post?). Either way, the text is perfectly readable. As for it being too big?? Come on - get out of the Dark Ages: 1024x768 went out years ago. Despite what that poll may say, the world has, actually, moved on from such lo-resolution screens. Honestly, even my 70 year old parents use 1152x864! If you're still stuck on 1024x768, do yourself a favour and buy a larger monitor before you go buy your next synth (even as one as good-looking as Poly-Ana  )

Nice work, AQ - can't wait to hear it!

Kriminal I wasn't dead serious, you just had it coming.
why, becuise i have an opinion?

IMO, the GUI sucks big time, but of course around here you arent allowed to have an opinino (and for your information, i didnt design or make the GUI for Karnage, ok...)

I also think it's a work of art, and it's really cool to try something different... but still it's too big. It doesn't fit on screen on my laptop 15,4" 1280x800 (quite common on lappies ;-) ), and that sucks big time, but it also takes most of the screen area on a 1600x1200 19" as well.

It's not like a synth should take ALL the screen estate, I don't think I'm the only one who wants to see the mixer, maybe some of the arrangement or other GUIs.

I know you didn't, and we all have opinions. Anyway I wasn't really slagging you or Krakli off, I just see a lot in common with Karnage and Poly-Ana - both are red & fuzzy.

copied from other thread ...

Looks cool , but as said , you can't read what's on those silver dials.
Also, the area left of the keyboard is hardly decryptable - not wanting to imagine how this behaves in live playing mode .
100% Orthogonal perspective (*) might help I guess, and rethinking the huge dials ...

Still, great artistic job :tu:

(*) or some tricks

pakana... it's called the minimize button. (Or try Ctrl-Tab!) Sorry, but you probably won't be easily able to play the mixer and the synth-knobs at the same time. (But I can't do that with any of the other powerful VA synths that I consider competition.)

You only have one mouse anyway. One hand is permanently tied behind your back in imaginary interface land.

And, it should fit FINE in 1280x800. Hide your taskbar maybe.

One more thing to add. Sorry if the Mac/PC discussion here has given anyone the wrong impression that this will be cross-platform. For now, I have no Mac so no Mac development (and if/when I do get one, it'll be an Intel Mac). I am REALLY SORRY about that, but if sales of the Windows version are good, then I'll be compelled to port to the Mac (and will be able to afford one.)

AQ, if you read this forum for a while, you'll see that the trend is to support developers who actually care about their customers. So, if the synth has bugs in Tracktion, will you say that it's a low-end host, get with it, get a real host?

To see these statistics and still not budge just shows how stubborn you are.

I'm on a 21" monitor for crying out loud, how much bigger should my monitor get?

And Dazza, you can see the number of 1024X768 users increase from last April to now, and still say that the world is moving on from such LOW resoltion screens? Since when is a 21" monitor at 1024 low resolution?

Good luck with the product, AQ, but I'm not going to be excited about a developer who doesn't bother to research his client base for even five minutes (I found the reoslutions survey within 10 seconds on Google).

I could understand if you had a decade of experience in devlopment, but this is only your second product. Listening and learning should be key components of your approach this early on, not "this is what I got -- deal with it".
