the fact you cant read much is a bit off a problem...grymmjack wrote:Is there a flaw with the layout (aside from the size of the labels)? Surely if this thing sounds great, and is affordable, the GUI is a non issue.

Blue is much easier on the eyes, and definitely IMO more legible. The relationship of white->blue pixel neighbor is less harsh and seems more legible.AdmiralQuality wrote:By popular demand:

I'm running 1280x1024 on a 17" monitor. When I resized the GUI in PS to 1200 wide the readibility problem went away. Also, the lettering on the black version seems to have higher contrast and is slightly easier to read. Just F.Y.I. Take it or leave it.
It looks great for the most part. I hope the sound is as nice. Looking forward to the release.

Everything looks great (though the lower left is fairly unreadable). If I could make one suggestion, it would be to simplfy the names of all modulation sources on those knobs (I think the knobs themselves look good, for what it's worth). ENV1 would be E1, LFO1 would be L1, an so on. With smaller names, you'd be able to use a slightly larger text size, and the names would be more easily recognizeable since you'd only have to notice one character. As far as I can tell you wouldn't have any letter conflicts, and you'd reduce these personal conflicts.
All the modulation options look insane... can't wait to try this one out. I have one question though: how exactly does the amp section work?

Typical VCA style. Each AMP can be modulated by ENV1, ENV2 or the keyboard GATE. And there is a modulation source and amount for the stereo pan position for each AMP.Prajch wrote: All the modulation options look insane... can't wait to try this one out. Sometimes you'll make a patch where each filter runs into it's own amp in parallel. Other times you might patch the fliters in series (filter 1 can be routed to either AMP1 or FILT2's input) and then you'll only use one of the amps.
As far as the mod dials, I wouldn't go to one letter descriptions but I do think there might be some more room to make the letters a little bit bigger. We'll see. The only modulation sources I'm finding particularly hard to read on the dials are "MMIX1" and "MMIX2" (the modulation mixers). Might change these to just "MIX1".
Thanks!

Little update for y'all:
Good news: New filter optimizations (as demonstrated in the new SCAMP 1.1, see http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1852346 ) mean Poly-Ana won't be nearly as much of a CPU hog as I'd feared she might. Power requirements should be quite comparable to other high-end VA synths, maybe even competitive! Phew!
Bad news: I'm still working on GUI code (there's a LOT of knobs! man...) so we're still at least a couple weeks away. Hang in there! Believe me, I want this synth done even more than most of you do!
