OK, I think I already know the answer, but I've just been having these nagging doubts...

The 2X Oversampler button. Is it on when it's lit or when it's blacked out?

I can see both ways as being 'on' for different reasons.

(For the record, I think it's on when it's the lighter blue in the middle - or 'lit', but it could easily be that it's set to on by default and the action of pressing it turns it off as it clears the colour in the box.)

well, I've no idea what G Clip is, but if you can't hear a difference, does it matter?:)

Yes, apparently it does matter.

I generally only use it as the final part of mastering, set at 99%, just to be sure I'm not over the limit anywhere. In which case it probably wouldn't matter too much, but I sometimes trim something down to, like, 80%. As clipping apparently can leave artifacts, the 2X Oversample button is there to at least reduce those artifacts.
My ears aren't great enough to hear the difference, but trained ears might be able to.
Just wanna get it right is all.

keep your eye on a cpu meter(host or windows task manager) and toggle that 2x button, the higher cpu is the 2x

'Lit' is 'on', as I thought.

Told you it was a silly question.

(Using it in Audition, or I would have noticed the difference with Orion as it has an onscreen display of cpu. Audition doesn't, so you prompted me to open Task Manager and try it both ways.

I think it must be a new(ish) addition. I downloaded the complete G-Bundle again from their site yesterday - I didn't have it on G-Clip either before then.

At the very, very final stage when all compression and everything's done, I apply it to 99% and then dither down and save. It keeps volume but without clipping any waveforms (as in, sending them into the red because of hidden peaks). Works for me!

I do this to every track, yes.

Higher levels, like 80% or whatever, I'd use to level out the occasional eratic spikes for better compression. Saves doing it by hand (which I used to do

), but no, I don't do this to every track. And only then, as little as I can get away with depending on the track.

Silly G Clip question.
