I've got this mono bass track with a lot of distorted high end, but I'd like to make the high end take up some more of the stereo field.

Anyone recommend a nice way of doing this?

I've tried Wide Boy but it creates a weird phasing effect below 5ms, and over 5ms is too long a delay.

Also tried Widebug but it doesn't remember its setting in Sonar.

Currently using a chorus to quite good effect but its not that good.

I like Bass Chorus and Blue Cat Chorus. Both free on PC.

have you tried the sonitus surround plug in sonar (actually i think you're a 5 person so is this built in now?)

i use that a lot on mono sources.

if doing it within a mix there's the good ol' haas panning effect. pan the source to liking, then delay the quieter channel (voxengo sampledelay is great for this) just a little bit, for exaggerated pan. Many other tricks possible with this approach too.

Basschorus and Bassphaser (that was released yesterday) might work wonders for bass though, as they make it really easy to leave the bass frequencies untouched.

isolate the high end with eq, then

A Harmonizer with slightly different settings for both channels added to the dry signal works well. Also does a very small room of a good reverb with random algorithms.

you could also try our plugs:

stereoiser (using mono-compatible options) and monofilter to retain the centre in the low's

Because it's such a beautiful day, here's a secret: very subtle, short, L and R panned 2 tap delay.
