What's a dubplate though?

DJ use dubplates to test new tunes I think, esp. when they produced them themselves.

a loooooong time ago (in school), i worked the media for a lecture on aids .... one of the speakers was paticularly graphic in his speech and i sampled a bunch of phrases to a Emulator II in hopes of making the ultimate homophobe dance tune (rim rim ri ri ri rrrr rimming), but alas never got to it....and i don't have a floppy drive handy, i don't even know if i still have the discs (a smart person would have dubbed the tape, eh?)

Didn't Portishead use dubplates to make their samples authentic sounding ?

bnasically. The groove isnt very deep so they dont sound as good as typical presses and dont last very long. 99% of them are white labels.
