he is using ableton live and it sounds like this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/toufas/hawtinsample.mp3
its not transpose (doesnt sound smooth) he is not altering the warp markers (same reason) and he is not changing the scene bpm.
if anyone knows how...

he's altering the delay time and feedback and then playing with the pitch/time of the wet mix from the delay.
not used live much, so i couldn't tell you but i managed to approximate this in audiomulch just now. (emphasis on the approximate) with the arp, delay and frequency shifter.
cool effect, i saw ritchie hawtin a few times at bugged out (manchester) nearly 10 years ago. i used to like all that minimal techno stuff on a friday night

edit: i presume you meant the bit in the second half
cheers,
steve.

I guess you missed the delay FX in Ableton Live... take another look, what he's doing isn't so special

just automate the tempo of your track.... actually, i didn't do this, i just continued to automate the delay time as by that point my delay was 100% wet so there was no need to alter the main tempo.

well this can be done in many ways. i don't remember if the delays in live pitch-shift (i do own live, but i suffer from memory leaks), but you can just grab a delay plugin that does. check the kvr database. i like Analog Delay by MDSP @ Smart Electronix.

I answered your post on the +/- forum. Here is what I wrote:Toufas wrote:he is using ableton live and it sounds like this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/toufas/hawtinsample.mp3

Sounds like a delay feedback loop that pitches as you shift time parameter. I think dubstation should get you in the ballpark, but I doubt its what hes using.

Listen to the first 5 secs of this demo they have on the site:

Interestingly enough I just ran acrossed a similar request on KVR recently. Maybe you can find something else in this thread:

you could also map the delay time to an external knob an change in realtime.....
for the pitch, use any pitch shifter an automate it......
Its much easier with hardware knobs than using the mouse for controlling....
I also like ritchie hawtin sound mixes....
for perfect control you could also use midi delays, etc.... (pitch shifting would be possible too...
but some of these fx in the mix may just be the FX on a DJ mixer and not on the vinyl....
best regards.....

sorry if i was completely wrong. honestly. i followed tech44's link to another thread and then remebered having seen a pic of hawtin using one of the psp delays. so it seemed plausible. again, sorry if that was misleading, but i wasn't joking
