Just popped in my local NI stockist at lunch time. They had the first shipment of Kore in stock. Ones in a bag on my desk now
NI site still says May 8th, but in the UK at least, they are early.

Please write a full report after you tinker for a while.

They shouldn't have jumped the gun like that...
A couple words of advice;
1) Run the Service Center (the successor to the registration tool) immediately after installing.
2) Run it again on the stated release date; there will be a Kore update on that day
You'll have fun

I'm wondering, is it possible to run Kore with it's full functionality with the controller (bar audio i/o from the controller obviously) without using or ideally installing the kore soundcard?

It's like this with RigKontrol 2. I was able to use the full midi control of RK2 without installing the audio driver or using it. I think it would be the same for Kore.xRAVENx wrote:I'm wondering, is it possible to run Kore with it's full functionality with the controller (bar audio i/o from the controller obviously) without using or ideally installing the kore soundcard?
Also, I wonder if the Kore audio interface will be usable? based on the poor quality of the one inside of RK2, I'm not planning on using the audio interface in Kore...that way I won't be disappointed when I get it.

The NI FAQ states you can use the controller functions without using the sound I/O functions. They dont state if that means you dont need to install the drivers at all, however.
ew: by 'jumped the gun' do you mean the shop was not meant to sell these before 8th May? They certainly had no idea there was a embargo on release. They even called Arbiter at my request to confirm the Kore's they had were eligable for the 'upgrade' special offers, and Arbiter didnt say 'dont sell them yet'.

If you register it before May 8th, you will miss out on some specials if you are a komplete/komplete care owner.flametop wrote:The NI FAQ states you can use the controller functions without using the sound I/O functions. So be careful.

You need to install the drivers- Kore won't run unless the drivers are installed. You don't have to use it as a soundcard, though.flametop wrote:The NI FAQ states you can use the controller functions without using the sound I/O functions. As far as I know FT, it wasn't supposed to hit the shelves until the 8th. Because of the lead time required in getting the DVDs made, there's usually some final bugfixing going on for a maintenance update available on the release date.

ARGHH!
Nothing but installer madness so far
Even if you have terabytes free on the disk partition you tell Kore to install to, it insists on having over 600mB free on your boot drive. It copies the Kore library to \Program Files\Common no matter what

Yes it does- that's one of the bitches I've had.flametop wrote:ARGHH!

All is not lost, though- after it's done installing there, you can move the Kore sounds to wherever you want and change the database path in the options menu. Best way is to copy them to where you want. Then, add a new directory to the database listing(s), delete the Common Files path(s) and rescan your database. Then, you can delete the Common Files folders (or at least the content- I'd be tempted to leave the folders themselves there in case a future installer looks for them being there).

What I did was just leave the factory stuff there and create/assign a second folder.ew wrote:I'd be tempted to leave the folders themselves there in case a future installer looks for them being there).
oops..
I meant to say, what I would have done is...

I do hope ya'll are going to give some feedback on May 8th/9th when that patch you mentioned is out. Not daring to pick one up now as it does look to be a rather time consuming affair. Of course it's pre-release still so I'm hoping that'll change in May this year
