You know the start of the Eastenders tune?

"doof doof doof-doof doofdoof dadada"

I'm certain it's one of those electronic drum kits with the large hexagonal pads that were really popular in the 80s, but I can't remember which particular drum kit it was.

I'd like to find out
A) What drum kit it is.
B) Whether it's an electronic kick, or tom. Can't work it out just from the sound.

Anyway, I need it for remaking an old game tune from the Amiga. (and no, it's not Eastenders the Arcade) :hihi:

Couldn't you just sample it? I'm pretty sure it's played dry at the beginning (though maybe with reverb).

you want roto toms or something like that

Think I read somewhere that they used a Linndrum for that intro, there should be samples of it somewhere on the net...

Not Linn, not Roto, it's Simmons drum pads!! Electronic it is...
There should be samples available, I found them once so they can be found again.

I've had nightmares about that drum intro
eh?

Yeah, the classic Simmons tom sound...

As beej says, THE Simmons tom sound.

Available here:

Kick, snare, 'crack' (white noise burst) and tom. Sorry but just a single tom but it pitches well.

From the kit of Richard Burgess, Simmons consultant and pioneering user with the band landscape, now a successful producer. He lent me his kit in the late 80s to sample for the Akai XR10 drum machine which I was working on at the time. Arguably definitive Simmons!

Enjoy :)

Simmons! You guys are fab. :D

hollowsun: Awesome. Just the thing. Thanks for the the download, cut the search time down considerably. The Tom will fit fine in a sampler with pitch mapping across a few keys. :)

Peg: "You bitch!"
Pat: "You cow!"

aitken11 This is fantastic.

I do a Podcast called Reclining Pair, would you mind if I borrow this for our Christmas edition? I don't want to record the original off the TV for copyright reasons. Happy to credit you in the podcast notes or link to your private music page?

We don't have advertisers or subscriptions, so I'd be unable to pay. Thanks.

I think it's a recording of Phil Mitchell falling down the stairs after half a bottle of whiskey šŸ˜‰
