Does anyone know of any vst or what not that does the same or similar thing as Boss's COSM AC-3 Acoustic Modeling Effect Pedal? What I am looking for is electric to acoustic modelling, something that will simulate the sounds of an acoustic guitar (nylon, string, whatever). Most of my searches have just ended up in amp sims or acoustic to electric and not vice versa. If someone know's of any apps or vst please list them.
Thanks!

PS - no, I am not looking for an app like realguitar.

you want an effect that will convert your electric guitar playing into an acoustic sound, is that what you mean?

or you want an acoustic guitar VST, like a rompler kinda thing?

I would like an effect to make my electric sound like an acoustic [steel string/nylon/etc]
. Here's a description of what the Boss AC-3 does:
BOSS is pleased to offer another "Authentic BOSS" Compact Pedal; the AC-3. How many times have you been onstage or in the studio with your electric guitar, and wished that you'd brought an acoustic along? For musicians who travel light, hauling an extra guitar to the gig isn't always the most attractive option. BOSS AC-3 to the rescue! This new-generation compact pedal employs COSM® modeling technology to transform any electric guitar into a variety of beautiful acoustic guitars.

BOSS's COSM Acoustic-Modeling technology is beautifully showcased in this small but powerful pedal, which simulates an acoustic guitar much more precisely and realistically than previous technology allowed. Derived from BOSS top-of-the-line AD-8, the AC-3 simulates the sound of an acoustic guitar with incredible precision. Four simulation modes are provided: Standard, Jumbo, Enhanced, and Piezo-equipped; the latter supplies that famous "cut through the mix" direct piezo sound. Previous compact acoustic-guitar modeling-pedals were promising, but now the bar has been raised with AC-3.
That is basically the kind of effect I am looking for.

I see. Personally i dont know of anything, but some others may have some info.

Gutiar rig has a few presets that do this...from memory its just some eq and chorus.
It will never sound great, but it's make do...

Heh, I already have GR2/amplitube/rg2/podxt/etc
I am looking more on the lines of something that the Boss ac-3 can do, not the reverse. The gr2 acoustic preset wasn't anything close but it's something I guess. Still I hope there is something out there or someone perhaps working on a vst to do this :) I'm all ears on any more suggestions thanks

Line6 Variax 300 or 700?? Still hardware, so buying a second-hand acoustic guitar is easier ;-)

Christ, this sounds great. Unlikely, too. Does anyone know how well this thing works?

I was hoping maybe for a cheaper alternative in the software department :P otherwise I'd just get another acoustic but it's bothersome to lug around with my electric guitars. Looking something in the software domain not hardware if possible :0

You could try just micing the thing, and using that through Bodilizer.

I'd suggest Guitar Rig too, but seeing that you already have it...I guess you're better off buying a second hand acoustic guitar, they're really cheap and get the job done!

I guess the question has been answered at this point - there are no apps/vst that will do the electric->acoustic modelling like the ac-3 or other COSM using pedals, at least not for now. It will only be a matter of time I suppose, but I will definitely be wanting to hear any more suggestions. Thanks guys!

PS - I wanted to avoid having to buy/carry around another guitar with me, which is why I am looking for something software based. Not looking for another guitar/hardware, hope that's clear. Software solutions only :)

Did you actually look at the Bodilizer link I posted?

Yes, I already looked at that link actually.

HAR published an article about 3 years back in the old Virtual Sound Studio forums. Pity the site went down.

Anyway, the trick works in the studio pretty well. Just play your electric without plugging it in and mic it very close to the fretboard about the 12th fret with a condecer mic.
