Yo y'all:

I've got the new issue of Texas Music Forge posted and have some loops and one shots left over that I've bundled into a .zip file at:

www DOT texasmusicforge DOT com/music/samples/TexasMusicForge_8.zip

There are around a half dozen drum loops of some cool rhythms I created for one of this month's features that have kind of a Caribbean R&B feel if that makes any sense.

There are also about a half dozen one shot samples of some solid Texas blues guitar work in the key of B minor. These guitar parts were recorded using my battered old Strat, my favorite preamp and an old Music Man amp turned up to "7". You can use the guitar one shots as stingers for music bed production or slice them up and lay them into your dance, pop, nu-soul or rock productions. These would probably add some serious beef to any rap productions, particularly that "Dirty South" style.

The .zip file is about 13 Mb worth of .wav files.

Bon appetit and best regards to all,

Tio Ed

Thanks Max. I'll let you buy the first round of drinks whenever we finally meet, my friend.

The quality of guitar players in Austin is truly stunning. Guys that draw audiences of thousands in Europe are playing for no cover charge and for tip jar change in small restaurants on week nights around here. I'm just another cat with a Strat in Austin, but I appreciate the kind words.

I always thought that was interesting. I know a few local artists who tour Europe every once in a while and do very well over there, selling thousands of CDs at their shows. Same thing with Latin America. But here they might draw a couple dozen or so people. Maybe it's just a matter of local overexposure. "I can see that person any night of the week on 6th St. so I'll catch them later."

overexposure would be it wouldn't it?
It's a huge single language market over there contrary to us Euro peeps - for every good artist in any EU state there are say five stateside and that's not even counting in the UK and the Commonwealth...wheat and chaff ;)

Great samples too! :D

For the roots-oriented roadhouse R&B style of music I play and listen to, I can often go out mid-week and listen to veteran players from bands like Asleep At The Wheel, Willie Nelson's band, over the top Tele pickers with a pedigree like Redd Volkaert, blues greats like James Cotton or Gary Primich, guitar wunderkinds like Eric Johnson, guys from Marcia Ball's band, blah blah blah. The level of competition has gotten a lot stiffer since most of the musicians from New Orleans moved over here after Hurricane Katrina.

Austin just flat-out has an embarrassment of musical riches, which has a lot to do with why Austin is a great place to play for the romance, but definitely not the finance...
