Is there a free vst synth that can play soundfonts?

I'd really like a free vst synth that can play soundfonts. See I've searched in vain for a harpsichord, but cannot find a vst harpsi, but there are a lot of harpsichord soundfonts. So I just want to be able to play them... This may be a very basic question, but I'm very new to these vst thingys, so I just have to ask...

If you don't mind a low polyphony count limitation (only two notes at a time allowed for the free version), Shortcircuit Free loads soundfonts, will let you edit them, and has a fully featured bunch of gubbins to boot.

I made a multi SF2-player for myself. Freeware. TAKE8 v1.2
If someone want's it, let me know.
* Up to 8 midi channels (players) playback of sf2 files with multilayer support.
* Each channel has a preview keyboard.
* Midi channel selection for each player (great for stacking).
* Level, pan.
* Solo and mute.
* Octave up/down.
* Volume boost.
* ADSR for each player.
* Bass & treble for each player.
* Reverb sends for each player to main Reverb-engine.
* Midi control.
* Host saves all settings.
* Reverb unit based on Freeverb (Size, Damp, PreD, Dry/Wet).
* Doubling unit for widing the signal! With selections for each player and main Wide control.
* Two VU-meters selections: Analog and/or digital for each player (on/off).
(Analog as sum, digital as stereo)

I love SFZ. I made my own SF2 player, but I never really released it. Smile
Why not? Your synths are great I'd love it if you released a SF2 player.
I course I could try to make my own...

As a general rule I try to only release plugins that are either completely out of left-field (and thus fill a need for innovative things) or are decent replacements for expensive retail plugins. In this case, there are a few SF2 players that are free, and are better than what I would offer (namely SFZ) so I bow to them, and spend my time where it's more sorely needed (like manglers, randomziers, and old game sounds)

I love SFZ (it's the only SF player i have, basically due to the unadulterated nature of it...all it does is play soundfonts...i know about the million and one things that CAN be done with it, but they dont clutter up the gui etc, they're "not there" if you don't want them to be) but for some screwy reason i have problems (and this has been on two comps and a number of hosts.)
Here's an example of what i mean.
If say i have four versions of sfz loaded into flstudio and i want to render one of them, unless i remove the other three (muting the other three makes no difference) the track i am rendering is all out of time and sometimes it'll only render half the track. I like sfz so much i DO just do the above, so i'm not shitting on it. Same happens in acid btw, so it's not an fls thing.

Crystal is using up more resources than SFZ. So, if all you need is SF2 playback, go for SFZ. For further manglings Crystal *is* a godsend, but as you're new to this, I'd stay away from it for a while.
