Hi there

I dig the Kjaerhus Classic and the Blockfish. Especially the Blockfish is impressive to my ears. I can't talk about specs and character, as my experience is somewhat limited.
Also, I found out that less is more for me, all those options and parameters on say the Kjaerhus ones intimidated me.

I have infact ordered the Marquis, so I am looking for a good complement to it. So the questions here are:

1) Suggestion for a good complement to the Marquis? I guess it should be a clean/transparent kind. Maybe I should stay with the Blockfish and the Classic from Kjaerhus?

2) I am demoing the Anwida CX1V comp and a few others. Any experience thoughts about the CX1V. I am pleased with it so far. Also good, clean and simple interface. Could be a bit bigger, but it's over the average design. I know, it's supposed to be about sound, but since we end spending so much time (and money) on these babies, a bit of eyecandy won't make any harm. On the other side plain ugly (no names) or overdone (like one particular expensive comp with way too much pizzaz for my taste) are huge put off to me.

3)Any thoughts on the Sonitus comp? I have been using the search button but I didn't find much about the Sonitus and the Anwida comps. Only that the Sonitus is kinda 'polite', which isn't always a good thing, I understand that.

Thank you in advance!

I think first check out all the Kjaerhus Audio Gold compression tools, especially GCO-1 and GUP-1. They can be daunting with all the parameters but who says you have to use it all? GUP-1 might be a great beginners compressor actually, with the simplified UI.

Voxengo Crunchessor is also very high quality and has its signature sound. It's fairly flexible also, very easy to use, and unlike the Marquis sound. OtiumFX compadre is a great all round compressor as well.

The sonitus comp is a bit outdated soundwise, not up to par with the current great ones. I have very little experience with the Anwida plugs, except I have a memory they are quite the bread and butter sound. There are probably equally good freebies, some of which you already have.

Grab the free Chunkware Vanilla compressor by the way. It's very handy, and quite likely equal to the Anwida compressors.

Grab all these bread and butter freebies as well: http://www.x-buz.com/index2.html

in fact it's at least almost equal to GCO-1 - same quality soundwise (can sound very similar) - and unlike GCO-1 it supports side-chaining :D

all imho of course... :)

thank you for the comment. Though you should have written "In my opinion it is good as the Marquis". We don't want the Voxengo fans (me being one of them) jump on your neck and on this thread :-)

I may install the Vanilla and make some comparisons of the ones I got with comparable settings.

Speaking about Voxengo: anyone has the Voxformer AND the Marquis? Is it the same algorythms or are we talking different sound character? I think I want the Voxformer too soon.

nope - we don't want them to do this - especially as we know those bastards can become pretty nasty for no reason ;-) :hihi:

Good to see you around, Jens! Thank you for your opinion. Looks like I have to download the Vanilla right away.

You dissin' voxengo? Huh? HUH?? HUUUHHH?????? :x

I recommend you check out the buzzware compressors too. Very good for bread and butter kind of sounds. Vanilla compressor is awesome too.

Cheers!

Cheers, Leonard :-) - yes, you should really grab it as long as it is still free - no gui but apart from that it's ace - and I'm a huge GCO-1 fan! :-D

I only have Voxformer but I know that they are very different - Voxformer features two rather basic compressors which can either be serial (similar to Blockfish) or parallel with adjustable crossover-frequency - I think the algo of those compressors is entirely different to Marquis (and in a different league) :)

I'll agree with the crunchessor recommendation.I don't own it yet (don't know why its only $39) but i was impressed by the demo and plan to get it. It seems flexible and diverse in sound. I own soniformer but that tends to scare people off because off all the parameters so your probably not interested in that, but it is one of my favorites aswell.

Nobody mentionned Neodynium? I think it's in a class of it's own, once I have all my bread and butter fx covered, I'm springing for this one.
No, that wasn't me.

Voxiformer is sweet but i prefer it just for vocals not whole mixes. It has many features (presence, deesser, etc) that tailors it well for voice (better then most plugins imho).

thank you! Well, I just put Voxformer in an higher place on my to-buy shortlist. The quality and the pricing of the Voxengo stuff makes it a no-brainer. Also, it's great supporting independent developers like Voxengo or Wusik.
