I was just watching american idol, and I saw on stage two box drums(you play them by hand) while McPhee was performing. Where can I find good samples of box drums?

If you have a large wooden box (even a table may work) and a microphone, you can sample something simular yourself!

I would think that the one I saw on american idol would sound better or more interesting. Or wouldn't it? I thought it was nice sounding and interesting on the show. Maybe I was just curious about never seeing it before, but I still thought it was awesome percussion.

They'd be included in a Salsa or Latin Music drumkit.I've had one for so long i can't remember where I got it from but I know I wouldn't have bought a "Latin Salsa Kit" so I had to have found it for free. Just google "Drumkit Latin Wav Free" or "Drums Cojones Wav Free"(don't know if Cajones is for sure how you spell it) you'll find a ton of them.

The Box Drum is a peruvian instrument, it has been used since XIX century in Peru, you can see this http://www.cajonperuano.org/multimedia-musica.htm (http://www.cajonperuano.org/multimedia-musica.htm)

This website is in spanish but with a lot of information about the history and the features of this instrument,
If you want to get one, I strongly recomend you to buy one from Peru, because the peruvian artisians have years of expirience making this instrument (by hand off course).
