Everyone's help needed!

Hey guys,

I'll be developing a VST effect plugin as part of a Masters thesis. The effect I have in mind will give the impression of "freezing" sound, i.e. stopping/slowing playback to the point where you can still hear pitch and timbre but no movement/modulation.

At this stage of research I need to make sure the product I'll be developing will be original so I can't really copy an existing product. I've come across several plugins that achieve the effect I have in mind to various extents, including GRM Freeze, Smartelectronix Ambience and Spectral Monkeyage.

I'm wondering if any of you kind people could a) tell me about any other products that achieve this type of effect so I can make sure whatever I do hasn't been done before and b) give your suggestions as to what sort of peripheral features could make this an innovative, useful product. Any suggestions/ideas/criticisms are most welcome.

I'm not sure I understand; are you after a different sounding effect than existing products, or a different algorithm that may yield similar results to what's already out there?

Mostly looking for a new sound but I'm open to all ideas. I'm set on creating the freezing effect but will need to design peripheral features to make it original, e.g. some sort of deceleration before the freezing kicks in.

i think that you can also use any sampler or sampleplayer and freeze the sound of a sample with playing with the start and end points of a loop(obviously very short loop)and create diverses freezing fx BY moving the loop of the sample
