Software deEssing vocal

When you do this do you use a wave editor and just use the deEsser destructively on the bad ssh parts or do you use your software deEsser in your sequencer and use it in real time on the entire track at a mild setting. Thanks and any other tips would be much appreciated.

I always use a de-esser as an insert in the host of choice. If it doesn't sound natural, then what I'll go in and use volume envelopes/automation and manually correct the esses. You will get the best, clearest results that way, but of course it's more tedious.
