Well i must say,i still havn't got hold of any real pro sounding hats for my instrumental uplifting melodic trance!
I'm doing some decent mixes now,but they are let down all the time by open and closed hats that do not fit and do not lift my mixes at all!
I'm half way through a solid tune at the moment,in fact my best one yet that i have hopes of demoing, but the lack of some decent high hat samples is slowing me down.
I regularly hear great sounding hats on commercial tracks on the radio and often think - where the **** do they get them from! An example of superb hats is Marcus L's remix of Krystal Dreams by Sundawner !!!!! Awsome hats, they really sparkle and drive! An awsome tune too!
Does anyone have any ideas/info or links to some top hats (excuse the pun) sounds/sites that really make their mark?
Cheers all.

Do you have a issue of computer music ?
Try out the SR202 & CM505
Also remeber to Eq the highs on the hat, and use a gentle touch of reverb on them....
Btw. What host do you use?

Look @ here:
http://resonantvibes.com/samples.php?id=9
For just 5,50$ approximately 600 OH and CH Hi-hats samples...i've bought and i can say that is a good choice for the price....remember to add some little FX to them like a reverb, eq, exciters, etc..
I make techno and i these samples everytime fits very well on my mixes...

For any trance samples, you got to go with Vengeance packs.
However, without fx no sample will sound cool. Therefore, apply a shit load of fx hehe

A great trick to add thickness and to gel the hihats to the track:
Insert a vocoder plugin on a send, using a synth pad chord that works with the rest of the song. Run the hihat sample through the vocoder at a low volume in addition to the main sample played clean. I find Orange Vocoder simply invaluable for this task, and I do this trick alot.
I don't write trance, because well, nothing worthwhile happened in trance after about '97. But I bet this will be a worthy addition to your hihat trick arsenal
Oh, and eq the f**k out of the highend of your hihats. Alot of people don't realise that by the time any given hihat sample has ended up on your harddrive it might have been resampled and mangled a hundred times, losing a lot of the delicate high end detail.

Be REAL careful with reverb on hihats, it's far too easy to overdo it or simply use the wrong reverb type which lessens the impact of the sound.Timerider wrote:Hello there.

Give plain old 909 open Hihat a go and beef up the highs a little without bringing down the rest. It's not as obvious as it used to be in the olden days but it's still all over the place in all things oonts oonts if you listen closely

also think hard about what HiHats you're gonna use (I reread your post and you said 'drive'). A poorly timed HiHat or one with a 'wrong' decay can kill a groove no matter how ace it sounds freqs-wise
