I could not hear much difference in all 8 clips- I reckon you used the same Limiter on all of them

(Do I get a prize if I'm right?)

bmanic can you explain why they all start at different times? did you cut them? the 6db ones

Great test!

I prefer C to this piece of music (which is very nice btw), but imagine I would like B to more standard radio pop-rock music...

ok seriously, it was a too distorted for me.

B was ok, but somehow very VST. D had issues with some of the high sounds, and C was just little bit shy on the kick, but it was still the most musical of these. I only listened to the 6db ones.

ok looks like there's some disagreement

good thing IMO, there is a market for different limiters and maybe I should move on from the freebies. Thanks Kjaerhus and Voxengo for making good limiters available on such friendly prices, I'll be demoing both soon.

I liked B best, C the least, but agree with Ocean Zen that the differences weren't particularly extreme.

Btw, after my own "testing" with Elemental Audio Finis, Voxengo Elephant, TBL Tubelimit, TBL PocketLimiter, WaveArts FinalPlug, Waves L1/L2/L3, Kjaerhus MPL ... I found at 1. Elephant and 2. MPL

i went for the one that seemed most transparent to the mixdown, as oppose to what i felt enhanced the mix.

for me dynamics are most treasured in this style, so i like A. for which i think you used a soft clipper or something like ozones mode. also i find clip A is a bit louder (.4db or so) than the orignal which i think made me feel the kik was a little more mushed than it may be is.

B, C and D all sound more like fast limiting to me, and the squash you get, with drums being turned down. I found B to maybe have the least dynamics and most squashed, with softest sound, which i didnt like. for me D preserves dynamics and 'openess' better, and i liked it most of the last 3. but im probably being influenced by volume a bit with these.

I voted B. The example D completely squashed all life from the guitar sound, C I found pleasing compared to the other ones but different from the original, which left me to choose either A or B but I've found the bass in A a bit mushier than B so here ya go. Still think the original sounds better, has more life and is airier, which suits the music better. (based on the heavy examples).

Nope, I didn't cut them but FL Studio (where this was rendered) doesn't have automatic PDC. That's probably the reason. Sorry about that.. I could have manually of course aligned them but as they are generally in the same part of the clip it should be enough to evaluate the differences.

I did vote for C,

on the light ones I could not make up my mind. There were slight differences, but I could not really say which I prefer.
On the heavy ones I found C to sound the most open, A was pretty distorted, B I did not like the bass, I like the bass a bit better for D than for C but D sounded pretty compressed, C was opener, had more air to my ears.

I found A and B to have a more calm and convincing bass. A was distorted yes so I picked B; it sounded very much like hardware. C sounded like plastic; the bass was thin and aggresive. D was the worst.
