I was just curious about this -- there doesn't seem to be any standard rule for noting the concert pitch or key of samples. (At least many of free ones I have downloaded have no indication.) While many seem to be either C or A, they're all over the place. Other than figuring it out by ear, is there any instant way of detecting the pitch of a sample?
(Hopefully, I shouldn't have put this in the beginner's forum.)
Concert pitch of samples?

Some audio editors (adobe audition, CoolEditPro) can detect the pitch. Otherwise, try GTune or another tuner. I do it by ear indeed...

Thanks for the info. I normally do it by ear, also, but I was hoping there might be a very simple standalone application that I could pull a one-shot, one note sample into and have it tell me the pitch before I decided to load it into a sequencer. (Then I could rename it with the pitch info.) Thanks for the GTune reference.
