For free? You want TbT's plugins. Make sure you download the archive plugins from the FTP link at the top. He makes 3-4 limiters and compressors, all very good.

Also:

Chunkware Vanilla Compressor
E-Phonic Xpressor
Kjaerhus Classic Compressor and Classic Limiter

TbT is a no brainer, but I'm liking Vanilla comp lately. Seems pretty transparent so far and has a nice control set.

Kjaerhus, Buzzroom, and Digital Fish Phones all have wicked ones. The Kjaerhus one especially is my go-to compy
