Let's not forget how well Izotope did in this. Any reps from Izotope lurking here? You have a right to come out and gloat, I'd say.

It works either way. Not sure I've ever done serious A/B, though, just my knee-jerk to do limiter last..jon wrote:Thanks for the CLAS tip, I wouldn't have thought of putting that before limiter, got to try!
I mentioned CLAS because it pulls clarity forward, but I like the combination of CLAS and BM-2 better than the inherent clarity of either Elephant or MPL-1. With the high slider on CLAS, I'm able to soften the highs if I desire.
I can give serious praise to MPL-1 for it's handling of bass, which is the best I've heard in VST, but I'll take a bit of mud in the bass in exchange for what sounds to me like a closer approximation of analog in the highs.

Being frank; I've never listened to A/B/C/D with the reason I knew how everything is going to turn out. Aleksey, Torben. Such buzz is important for your sales and you both should take this oportunity to improve sales for your product and not all going in to personal debate, almost on the level of sarcasm, insulting or even intriguing each other. Torben being touchy with no (few) reasons, but what we expect from the devs is to be professional and never go to the level of personal debate in public. Why don't you find this as a source to get information from your and potentially your users, what you should improve or implement in your wonderful plugs. In the name of good marketing you could even join the forces, maybe even give out a licence or two of your plug to the voter(s)(I don't own either, so I would be glad to participate
) and guide this debate in to more positive atmosphere, since all this is adding to your score 0,0000000000000!
Think..
Good sales = 50% good product + 50% good marketing. You both have good product, don't blew it on marketing!

I just found the old TLS maximizer plugin and it seems to be even better than the pocket limiter on this particular clip. One thing is certain, Daniel knows his stuff.Frippertronix wrote:True dat, yo.Vendaval wrote:

Actually, I thought that older plug was a rather nice limiter...if I remember rightly. I quite fancied the choice of release algos in that one...was more versatile across different music styles.bmanic wrote:I just found the old TLS maximizer plugin and it seems to be even better than the pocket limiter on this particular clip.

limiters/clippers are used/abused at the end of the processing to make music louder. but in this clips, bmanic lowered the gain of the limited files after the processing(you wouldn't do that if you use a limiter, so without that the processed files would be a lot louder than the original) simply to show how they change the audio and that it actually sounds worse when you listen to them with the same volume as the original.Boulotaur2024 wrote:I'm going to be shot for such a noobish question, but... as I hardly heard any differences between the differents soundclips -then again I neither have the right equipment (crappy headphones here) nor the ears, probably- and as I overall prefered the original, I'm really wondering what a limiter is supposed -as an effect- to add to the original sound ?
I thought it was a device that prevented, limited clipping, I thought it was a sort of 'inverted compressor'.
I'm kinda confused now
he applied the processing and put the output volume down, so we can compare the sound and not the added loudness.

Keep in mind that most times one is approached to deliver a very loud master you are aware from the get go that a *quality* signal is not what is ultimately going to impress the person(s) making this request of you in the first place. What you are really shooting for is the absolute hottest bleeding track you can manage before the signal is so badly smashed it would be flatly refused by almost anyone.defjamm wrote:limiters/clippers are used/abused at the end of the processing to make music louder. but in this clips, bmanic lowered the gain of the limited files after the processing(you wouldn't do that if you use a limiter, so without that the processed files would be a lot louder than the original) simply to show how they change the audio and that it actually sounds worse when you listen to them with the same volume as the original.

Now I like a quality sound...always have. But these days what alot of folks call a "quality" master is something that takes the bleeding wax out of your ears...with most of the rest of the stuff in there as well.
Now, in light of Bmanic's limiter shootout I propose upping the real world stakes here. Use the original wave file and see just how hot you can get it using any limiter of your choice. You want to end up with something that a label will see as an acceptable master...it must be very loud, but it must not be totally breaking down...you are pushing to the edge of an extemely fine tipping point.
For those interested in giving this a go, here is an example to get you started...the total RMS on this file is around -8.50 or so. Anything -10.00 or above you are simply not trying hard enough.

so it's no longer a limiter-shootout, but a limiter-shoot-to-kill.
