Can anyone tell me if I can import wav files from either a CD-ROM or Zip drive into a Yamaha A3000 v1 please?
I am looking for a quick way to load wavs that are too big for a floppy disc.

Yes you can. Version 1. 0 supports wave import.

Thanks Scotty.
I have just been given an external CD, I just need to get a lead for it now.
I have tried once with a zip drive but without success. I guess I will have to play with it some more at some point.

Your best bet would be a scsi connection to a PC or MAC. Most wav editors will be able to transfer samples to the A3000 using SMDI format.
ZIP drive: first format the disc with the A3000 and then copy the files to it from your PC.
There used to be a software called the A3000 disky but I am not sure if you still can get it somewhere..?
Worst case use the digital in if you have and tranfer your files by resampling.

Thanks Götterfunke.
A few things for me to try.

You are welcome.
BTW I thought the A3000 was a great sounding box. The filters and modulations are very cool. I am not aware of a software sampler with a feature that allows for reversing sample playback from the modwheel...?

I have reformatted a zip disc with the A3000, but now my PC will not recognise it.
Am I missing something here, should I be using a wav editor or A3000 disky for this, or should it be recognised?

Edit: Tried A3000 disky but had no success.

I have just tried to connect my PC to the A3000 via a USB SCSI adapter which I know works, because I use it with the zip drive. Now windows keeps trying to find drivers for the A3000 which it can't.
Any ideas?

Hmm, I used to do this with a MAC...
The A3000 uses DOS format. Sorry, this is all I know. It has been a while since I've done this and I no longer have my A3000.
Have tried to cancel the driver search and open an audio editor and see if it talks to the sampler?

Cancel the drivers search, then launch your audio editor and see if it can find it anyway.. hopefully you have Soundforge or something that is capable.. its a while since I used my A3k* but I seem to remember I always used to disconnect it from the PC when I wasn't actually transfering files as they never really got on that well.

I used to have a SCSI CD burner in the same PC: I discovered I could use it as a CDROM directly from the A3k 8) except every so often the PC would go "hey, what are you doing with my CD burner" and both machines would lock up and need re-booting :hihi:

* just laziness really: its a great sounding box, but VSTi's are so much more convenient..

i used to use a program called SMDIXferGUI for transferring files to and from my A3000 ... there's a good forum at www.ampfea.org ... i had to stop using mine, those data encoders flying out of control got too much :hihi:

Not having much luck so far.

When trying to connect via scsi, as soon as I cancel search for drivers, it comes back.

Downloaded SMDIXferGUI and as soon as I try and launch it it says cannot load .dll, yet it is in the same folder.

Also, having been researching, I get conflicting information about whether it can read wavs from CD.

Any further thoughts anyone. I don't want to buy a scsi lead if it wont read wavs from CD-ROM.

Keep cancelling until (eventually) it stops. I think that may be why I unplugged the SCSI from the PC most of the time :hihi:

You could transfer the files via a MIDI cable if all else fails, but "quick" would not be a good way to describe that.. ;)

Is this a setting in WIN XP, not heard of this before? How do I do that?

I appreciate the help.
