Neodynium should get more attention, I think

Yes, IXL is a damned fine bit of kit too, soon to be owned by me. The only misfire in their collection, I would say, was Finis.

Thanks for the info, I just subscribed to their mailing list so we'll see if I get this offer. I've had Neodynium on my radar for a long time, I believe it's the only compressor/expander with a zone system like this one has, I don't know if a feature like this is of any use for music production, but for post-production work it is certainly a valuable tool to have in one's toolkit.Kraznet wrote: For those still interested (if they haven't fled to the hills or lost the will to live ) I have to agree with Bobby . It's a great and unique compressor and certainly has a different approach by using what they call "compression zones" Each zone (up to four of them are available) allows you individually configurable attack, release and ratio. You can then specify how the ranges of your audio levels are compressed which is represented by a very nice GUI .I bought it recently at a special price $89 instead of $159. This was based purely on the fact that I'd subscribed to their mailing list. It's the first time I've bought a product from Elemental Audio so I'm very happy .It seems this offer is still available but whether it will be offered to new subscribers I'm not sure.
No, that wasn't me.

You know, I own Eqium and Firium too, and they're very nice and all, but I don't use them much. I have a lot of EQ plugins . . . ok, I have a lot of plugins, full stop . . . and tend to use the URS and the pultec the most. Sometimes I want a phase-linear eq, but generally for very subtle little moves on the master buss. And while unlimited bands is nice in a para eq, I find I reach for the magic frequencies on the URS and pultec a lot more often.
Not knocking them. Point is, neodyn is really something special, for me at least. The ability to just instantly add more room to the overheads, or get rid of the snare attack, or bring out the pick noises in guitar track, or make a backing vocal invisible, with this very simple interface, is brilliant. The simplicity of the operation is a big part of it . . . I'm somewhat mystified by folks who find it hard to understand. If you don't think of it as a 'compressor,' but as a dynamics manipulator (which is what a compressor/expander is, really), it's just laid out right in front of you. Only use the 'advanced' mode, which is actually simpler. Loud snare transient bothering you? Grab the loud part, and make it quieter. Want to hear more of the buzz from the amp? Make the bottom band go deeper. It's what compressor/expanders would look like maybe if they'd first appeared as vsts.

I gotta say Bobby, I have Neodynium and while I "get it," I still at times feel like I just don't, so I don't bother with it until...I just want to do something brutal on drums. It's the plug-in I can instantly get that Dave Fridman loud, roomy, insanely compressed, exciting drum sound with and not make everything smaller sounding. It's actually the one plug-in I wish I spent more time with. But you know what, I'm going to really try and spend some time with it and see what it can do outside of drums on my next track just because of this thread. Now if someone could just motivate me to write a song.
Hey Bobby, BTW where in Jersey you from? I'm kind of squashed in between Newark and Jersey City if you're ever in the general area and want to grab a beer you should let me know.

I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.
