I'm not a big fan of cubase lately. All the midi timing issues i have with SX2.2 are tiring. This is just one of the many flaws that SX has which keeps me from getting SX3 for now.
Can't find a key in Cubase SX that was there in Cubase VST5.

I've searched the cubase forum extensively but still without luck. In Cubase VST when i pressed the Home key, the playback locator would move to the far left of the screen. It was a simple function that i really found useful. In SX i can't find this function anymore. At a friends studio i searched SX3 and it also doesn't have it. Or am i missing it?

You mean to the start of the song? Check out the key commands, you can set any key to do that. MIDI can, I believe, be (un)set to follow a system time stamp; try changing that setting. I really like Cubase, but it takes some time to set everything how you like it.

Hey Marc, no not to the start of the song but to the far left on the screen. So if i am working on the end part of a track, zoomed in to 4 bars or something, pressing Home would move the locator to the left side in my workscreen ( regardless of where the left/right locators are ).
The midi timing is another story which i'm being helped with so no need to go into that.

You could set a marker. Not as easy, I know, but better than nothing...
What I miss is using the line tool in the piano roll to trim the beginning of a stack of midi notes, in order to say imitate a guitar strum. In 5.1 I used to draw a not-quite-vertical line connecting the beginning of the lowest note to a point slightly after the beginning of the top note, and it would cut off intermediate notes, creating a strummed chord. Now, when I try it, it seems to cut off the note from the intersection to the end, leaving only a tiny fraction at the beginning. It's so basic, I'm sure I'm missing something or doing something wrong.

It's the "end" key, right under the "Home" key. At least that's what's doing it for me and I didn't set that key command myself, it's must be from the default setting.
