Problem with Garritan Stradivari- am I doing something wrong

Ok, so I've been thinking about getting the Garritan Stradivari, as I've needed a good violin for a couple of upcoming songs. So through school, I have a friend who says I can try his(at his place, or course). The only thing was that I had to figure out how to fix a problem he has.

So I go to try it, and load the violin into Kontakt 2. I start to play, and the first note I hit has a very strong attack, but then gets really quiet. I can play legato or port but the volume is VERY low. But when I stop for a second, and hit another note, the first note I hit has the problem of the very strong attack again with the very weak sustain. Very unplayable.

Why is the volume like that? Am I doing something wrong, like missing a keyswitch or something. I think I've tried all the keyswitches, but I'm not sure.

Also, the CD he has with the library has the library weighing in at around 600MB, but when loaded, Kontakt only says it is taking about 80MB of memory. Any clue why this is?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me. I believe his Kontakt is at 2.1 and doesn't give any problems on the factory libraries I tried to load to test.

Oops, I checked the Northern Sounds forum and found this topic:

I will try changing CC#11 and see if it works.

Well, I have to get into the K2 manual. I don't seem to be doing MIDI CC's correctly. I have mostly used it so far to just play back the libary without getting very deep, as it's still pretty new software for me.

I'm at work now, so if anyone can tell me how to do it or give me any tips before I get home, that's great. Otherwise, I'll try again tonight.

if its anything like GPO, the mod wheel controls 'volume'. so when then mod wheel is down, the volume is low. maybe it has something to do with that. the attack of the strings is controlled by velocity. IIRC ;)

Yes, that is correct. I felt like an idiot when I searched the Northern Sounds forum and a ton of people complained about it too. But silly me, as I don't usually read manuals for sample libraries, I didn't realize it.

Too bad I don't have a mod wheel or volume pedal. I have to program it by hand into the piano roll. But it does work!

Thanks.

glad i could help! its not often i know an answer to questions asked here! :)

pick up a cheap controller and play real time with the mod wheel. very expressive! they did a nice job. much easier to go back and edit what you did than by starting from scratch, so to speak.
