Well first let me say thanks to all for help testing and the many offers to help.

I'm amazed at all the nice things said and also that no bugs have been reported yet! except a crash in Logic?

I will give it until friday afternoon if no bugs are reported? release will be friday night, so all may get a copy :D

Fretted Synth

:hihi: Start on version 1.6 Saturday.
Nice! I should be able to give it a more thorough testing before Friday, but no bugs on my end yet. Is that with the new interface?

UI isn't done yet. sorry dudes. will hurry on it. was investigating 3D app to use (blender/anim8or) to do alpha model of main UI surface and controls. will skip and emulate for now though. too much to learn and too many commitments waiting :)

Hey, no rush! Beta good. :D Looking forward to it.

hey grymm good on you man - blender is an excellent and i mean excellent open source 3d application - its well supported/documented - tirelessly updated - and has a huge amount of pro quality features, which project Orange (the worlds first open source movie) goes to show.

Its workflow and interface are a bit different to say max or maya but once you get used to it its second nature.

ok. Initial sketch completed.

Note the following:

All that is intended to know at this point are control placement (general), general sizes, and control names/types. Circles are pots, small squares are small buttons, red circles are leds, the funky o/ are flip switches (2 way and 3 way), the rest should be obvious.

Few things I am concerned about:
  • The size of the plugin is large. Larger than 800x600. Is this ok?
  • The colors for the pedals -- are there certain colors people would like to see for different effects or should I stick to the orgiinal freeamp hues? The 2nd row of pedals -- should these be different hues or a adjustment of the original hue in saturation/brightness/contrast -- ie: lighter or darker same color?
Everything is right there, nothing hidden. The EQ works like so:

(notice bypass added :) )
Choose an EQ from dropdown (1-4), choose if eq is post or pre, done.

The rest should be self explanatory/obvious.

What do you guys think of the layout? All makes sense? The pedals bodies may shrink in size a bit and obviously the final graphics will look much much much better. Clicking on frettedsynth logo will show about page, and clicking on freeamp logo will open user manual (is this possible Joe?) ...

Please give feedback as verbose and logical as possible. TIA!

BTW: original plug size = ~850x~500 new size = 814x668 ... so taller but skinnier.

Also do you think the small sides on the pedals the gray area should be used? I was going to put a sort of pedal board graphic or something. I dunno though it may be better just enlarging the pedals a bit width wise to compensate and get rid of that gap/pedal board area.

I have 0 experience with 3D besides long time ago with caligari truspace :) So it's huge learning curve but blender seems to have tons of support, and I have a buddy who said he'd help me with it. Basically I don't want to do anything more than create depth models using grayscale which I would import into photoshop and paint on -- the gray values would be the light source and painting over the top / overlaying stuff would be done to maintain the "object" shadows/lights/etc. Too much to learn to do it now but I want to for future. Just to make some realistic controls and surfaces and stuff. :)

that layout looks...well layed out :D

i cant pick on anything there - and about the pedal board graphic - the amount of size you would gain on the knobs of all the pedals would be very small as the gain of a few pixels would be distributed over all of the pedals ... i like the pedal board graphic idea.

PS wheres the flanger gonna go when it comes out?

Post

I'm worried it might be a little big on my 17"...but that'll be good motivation to toss it!

Actually, my #1 request was to have all the pedals visible at once, so I think this is great.

What res you run on that? I understand the concern and it's a big enough one that if enough people yell at me I could do my best to size it smaller. I dont want it to be too large to use.

Post

also the background colors are just reference, they will go away and it will look more ampish (aside from the pedals which will have colors). The actual LED indicators for the pedals are going to be nifty (if I can pull it off).

Post

for kicks I simply resized the image to fit 800x600 (707x580) and this is livable for me to design around:

What do you guys think?

Post

as long as you have enough room to make your design comfortably - i guess 800x600 is a bit better
