Cheap, good quality acoustic drum kits for a friend?

Hi,

It's my friend's birthday soon and he's receiving a Korg PadKontrol. I thought it'd be a nice idea to buy him some acoustic drum kit samples to go with it.

The problem is that my budget won't stretch to BFD or DFH. I only have around £25, €40 or $50 maximum.

I don't mind if they're wrapped up in a vst or if they're just samples (although VST would be nicer).

He has SFZ (so sfz kits or soundfonts would be nice) but, basically, whatever you can recommend!

What about DK+? Does that come with nice acoustic kits? I know I may be asking alot for cheap multisampled kits but hey, it's worth a try.

Anyway, thanks in advance guys! :D

/hopes his friend doesn't read KVR

Yeah I just got a hold of this yesterday and it is serious top-notch, its real clean which can be a bad thing at time (to me anyway), but everything I threw at it yesterday came out real authentic sounding, especially since I really think that each drum has a real convincing range of samples.. I dicked around with it all last night. :)

And that there's a DK+ mapping for it, here: http://nusofting.liqihsynth.com/

DK+ also allows you to very easily load your own sample sets to create velocity-layered kits. Can't recommend it too highly.

You might also check out Odo's Dr. Fusion 2, which is free and rocks. I like to layer some of his kits in on top of another acoustic kit to give it extra tone.

For what it's worth, I really like the sounds of the DFHS Lite and the Korg UVI kits that came with my padKontrol. Lotsa good sounds in there.

You might also want to see if your friend will go halvesies with you on a copy of JamStix. It has some absolutely killer internal and add-on kits.

Take care,

GreyLion
