UBK and Tool?

This may be a silly question, but is there anyway I can use UBK to get a bass tone like the bassist for Tool? I'm not a Tool-junkie, but I love how is sound fills in a lot of gaps. I don't know how to explain it, but it's really "fat"? and kind-of like an open-mouth kind of sound. Almost as if a lot of the notes are really accented.
I know that's a really poor description, but does anyone know what I mean?
Regards,
Joel

Ok, there are some clips I found at CDUniverse, but the quality is horrible because it's so compressed. Here is the link to the page I'm talking about:
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.a ... =339973592
Once you're there, click the sample for the song called "The Pot" (they have it "Pot, The"). Keeping in mind that the sound is horrible, you can still get an idea of what I mean at 21 seconds into the clip.
In the meantime, I'll look around for some better clips.
Cheers.

I found a better sample at:
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/ ... s2Pid=9481
Check the same song out, and this time listen from 18 seconds onwards.

Hi Joel
I am was just listening some more here and i was thinking this...
The following MP3s use UBK in ManyStation.
http://www.manytone.com/UBKmp3/UBK_demo_bassics.mp3
http://www.manytone.com/UBKmp3/UBK_demo_vicslap.mp3
They are close to the sound you want, but i think if you ran these sets through ManyGuitar and used the deep Amp Sim Setting with the 15" cabinet, and throw a compressor after it, You should be able to simulate the heavy compressed Amp sound that is on the mp3 demo you posted.
The cool thing is all 13 sets in UBK can be blended and used together as they were all recorded with the same Direct Clean settings. Add Amp Sim as needed.
Don't forget the demos above are the sets relatively clean, the sound on your mp3 has Amp all over it.
A Start till Greg comes around anyways.

You can use that slap sound, or the loud velocity layer of the fingered soundset. The deep amp sim setting with the 15" cabinet sounds right.
The Tool bass sound is all about getting the right EQ, Distortion, cabinet settings, and compression. I'll see if I can recreate the sound for you.

Hey guys, I really appreciate your input. I don't have ManyGuitar though - but I realize I still have a lot to learn with UBK.
When you say "all 13 sets in UBk can be blended together", do you mean using ManyGuitar?

Only 1 set at a time can be loaded into ManyGuitar so here you would load different instances of ManyGuitar if you wanted to use multiple sets.
But you can now use the ManyTone Mapper to Blend Soundsets together.... so this would work for ManyGuitar to get multiple sets into 1 Single Soundset if you wished. But remember your Ram Load goes up the larger the soundset, so for this reason we kept the sets individual. Also it would be Impossible to map all the samples to 1 usable set ... So this gives better options for all users the way we did UBK with 13 separate Soundsets.
ManyStation on the other hand can blend up to 6 Soundsets using its Layers and a combination of the Zone Setting and/or velocity setting controls.
We have a few presets in ManyStation Format that come with UBK that blend a few sets together and show a few possibilities.
So really any good Amp Sim and some comp and EQ after UBK and you should get close to what you are after.

Really what this means is that you can change articulations in a song and it will sound natural, not like the bass guitar is completely changing. In the UBK demos you can hear several soundsets being used at once. (by using several instances of ManyStation)jacksmash wrote:Hey guys, I really appreciate your input. Ok, then my first task will be to learn how to effectively combine different soundsets. Thanks for your help!

Paul and Greg,
Would you mind checking out:
http://www.glansoftware.com/ubk.mp3
and tell me your thoughts? This is about as close as I could get after about an hour of fooling around with 2 instances of ManyTone.
Please be honest - if you think it's horrible, say so. However, if you can hear something specific that's missing, perhaps you could lead me in the right direction.
THanks!
joel

Your bass tone in that MP3 is pretty cool!
Here's my little tool bass replica:
(ManyGuitar patch)

(you can also try loading in other UBK soundsets using these ManyGuitar FX settings)
And an MP3 demo:

Unfortunately I don't have ManyGuitar (are you trying to give me an insentive?!?)
Anyways, your mp3 is cool - but perhaps a little too much distortion on the bass. Thanks for taking the time though - you guys are great!
