hi,hope someone can help.
I am using SX3 and have so far managed to avoid ever using any midi CC comands.
Now though, due to a sustaining midi guitar that I cannot make stop, I need to add a midi STOP command.
Please tell me how to do this? I assume I will need to do it on the line editor? And what is the correct cc? Any help aprreciated.

AFAIK it isn't possible to stop a midi note with a midi cc. You'll need a note off message for that. And the only device that could send that would be the guitar itself.
Maybe i misunderstood the question. Why can't you make the guitar stop ?

its not a real guitar - its a vst - Slayer. The note sustains and I cannot get it to stop abruptly. As you say I need a note off command but am unsure how to do this?

With MIDI guitars, note offs not being recorded properly may indeed be the problem.

Problem with Slayer is that you can adjust the feedback to go on forever. Adjust the patch settings.

Hm, seems like a note off wouldn't do the job indeed (never tried Slayer), but in case your note isn't sustaining endlessly, there's gonna be a note off anyways whenever the note ends.

Sascha, with all respect, I didnt understand that at all?Sascha Franck wrote:Hm, seems like a note off wouldn't do the job indeed (never tried Slayer), but in case your note isn't sustaining endlessly, there's gonna be a note off anyways whenever the note ends.
Basically, I need to stop the note at a certain point. Any other ideas?

You need to change the feedback setting. Otherwise it will feedback forever. Either change it once and for all or automate it.

You just correct the length of that note. At the end of the note a note off will be sent. It's like that in all MIDI sequencers. Note offs are no separate things you can insert or edit otherwise (note off velocity is, but that's an entirely different matter and almost completely unused).marcouk wrote: Sascha, with all respect, I didnt understand that at all?

If the feedback still continues after the note has ended, it's just like jupiter8 said: You need to adjust whatever setting on the used instrument. Probably it's even MIDI controllable (which I would imagine for a plugin like Slayer).

ok thanks I am getting there.
It is a setting on the vsti. Not the feedback setting but the release setting. By putting this to zero it cuts out the sustain. ButI have a problem, I need to automate this in SX, but for some reason it is not writing the change? (Yes I do know how to use basic automation)
Maybe Slayer will not let you automate its settings?

@marcouk:
Firstly i'm not a cubase lover like u. Therefore i have tested Slayer2 on FL & P5.
I have assigned the release button from vsti to one of my knobs (midi-controller). It worked. Then i played any crap with a long chorus guitar-preset,...and automated the release button...it also worked.
I don't know if that is an issue in SX. But to me, on FL & P5, it worked fine.
Perhaps u forgot to put the fingers away on those parts, where u wanted the guitarsound to stop.
Btw. i also have tested the FL-slayer. The same results as with Slayer2. All ok.
IF u realy don't see any recorded valus in the event editor after the record, ...then perhaps u have forgotten something in the settings. As Cubase isn't that simple such FL, P5 or even Reason (though with it's fantastic Remote), u have to programm & perpare more than in all the other sequencers.

Sounds like you have it sorted anyway...but there's always the trusty old All Notes Off controller message you can send. I used to use that occasionally when I was all h/w and things got stuck for some reason. I seem to remember my OSCar used to do funny things unless at the end of the midi chain. Dunno why - I presume it didn't send note-off velocity 0, or somesuch?
It's midi CC 120, 121 or thereabouts (sorry, can't remember exactly) but in Cubase, you simply need to use the drop-down list of midiCCs in an editor to see which it is...it will be specifically named All Notes Off. You insert it as a midiCC value 127 either in the pianoroll editor or in the list editor. And you can either do it for one specific midi channel or for all midi channels (which is a useful one to have stored as a part, in case of emergencies).
