You can count me in aswell, although I have one suggestion as to the rules.

I'd like to se in the rules some sort of favorism on releasing the plug on multiple platforms.

Well if you release it so more people can try it ,more people potentially will vote for you. No ?

Just a thought, since opensource was something ppl wanted to endorse, dual platform is something I'd like to se endorsed.

And also since i do it on 2 platforms I'd like to sneak in some advantages to myself, because, face it, there are some pretty bright minds here, with nice ideas, gonna be a heck of a compo!

I don't think multiplatform nor open source stuff should be in the rules. Let the voters handle the endorsements, and let's keep it simple.

i wanted to say something before i ran out for work.

we can surely encourage open source and multiple platforms, and make people aware that the dev did those things. but i can't really say for sure that it's going to affect the voting. the only thing i can think of is that people are going to realize and like the fact that the plug is open source, or on multiple platforms and
just vote for it based on those facts. :)

i will surely note those thoughts and try to make people understand the importance.

That is good enough for me, you count me in will you not?

Yep - I might put some algos open source, but there's no way I'll open source my personal dev environment (you can consider it a geeky variant of SE, SM and Reaktor, with the subtle but nice difference that I have got the sources...)

In respect of rules, I'd go as far as to say:

No rules concerning the type of plugin/application. The result should just be a piece of original freeware.
All entries must be published on the same day. Only beta testers may get the stuff earlier.
Screenshots, demo songs etc. may be published earlier, to tickle the audience and get them mouth watering for day X.

Day X will be a great day generating threads with hundreds of pages, with entries being published every few minutes/hours.

What do you think?

I agree on beta-testing and a same day release.

some great ideas.

with respect to the type of plugin, i think there should be no restriction. there are so many synths and effects out there, and it really takes something magical to set a creation apart from what already exists. it's unlikely that *all* the developers in the contest will find something really special and original. personally i'm most interested in new kinds of interface and utility making use of existing technologies; in particular, with plugins, that means midi. my main aims in development are in creating totally new ways of making use of what we already have, because it's far more exciting, and it's universally enjoyable to find new life in old synths/fx.

i'm therefore most likely to come up with some kind of midi-based tool/interface enhancement, and i'm sure it would stand up against new synths in terms of providing joy to a plugin user.

would this sort of thing qualify for the contest?
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Sounds good... I'm in.

too right

if everyone in this thread releases a free synth on the same day i'm not sure my family will see me for a week, let alone just that day.

the buzz on kvr on release day will be huge.

i have no clue how to go about building synths (my nord modular is as far as i go) but i will be first in line waiting to try them all.

superb idea tuz, are you using your entire payrise to give people freebies :hihi:

yours in anticipation :o

I think there should be some kind of "strictness" regarding the type of plugin,
otherwise the voting would hardly make any sense, (to me <wink>)
