I need to find out what pitch a sampled synth I have is at. I don't have any formal music training so I am unable to go, oh thats C# or Gb etc... . So I am wondering what the quickest method (Software) to identify its original pitch is?

Thx.

put the sample on a track of your choice in your sequencer, loop round it.

open up a nice clean sounding vst.

press keys till you've matched the two.

cheers,

steve.

...or simply run it through GTune : http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2193.html

I have included the sample below, in case one of you musically trained people can open it and go, oh thats ............ .

Is there not any software that can identify pitch? Surely there must be.

Just do what blaster78 said; loop the note, then open another VST, piano works well for tuning, and just play notes on the other VST until it plays the same note. Really simple.

If you can record from 'what u hear' or 'wave out mix', you can also use ap-tuner.

If you have sound forge, there is this spectrum analysis feature, that gives some info about any loop, sound etc .. and it gives as well the note it corresponds to ;)

Analog X autotune will tune samples to any note you want. It's free and works pretty well. (At least I haven't had any trouble with it yet.)

Thanks for the replies everybody. I think the resynthesis option sounds like it best fits my requirements. What is the easiest Synth to use for this purpose?

I always just tuned a sine wave to it but that can get a bit painstaking

Try C_Tuner

Why use a simple solution when there are complicated ones?

Just put g-tune as an effect on the track, like was mentioned earlier. It tells you the note. Or C_tuner looks nice!
Do not lick the fablanky
