I'd like to have a go, too :-)

Post

what do you think about mdsp's request? would it be okay to start mid june and make it last for 3 months? :) it's ok with me.

I'd prefer 3 months starting from mid of June.

and I'd like to be able to upload and announce the plugin before the deadline because I might not have an internet connection at that time.
I fully understand your point! The same applies for me even tho the timelimit isn't a problem. I've got most of my components predesigned, all I need to do is to put them together in a funky way. I'm moving to a new flat the 1st June so I need a few weeks to sort out my establishment there + sorting out a fast broadband connection. Shouldn't take too long. But then again we all know how bureaucracy works...

i'm intending to do a new tweakbench creation for this compo and release it on the appropriate day, but it will still be a normal release for my site..

does that conflict with any of the rules?

based on a suggestion, i was considering anonymous submissions with original guis so people wouldn't know who they're voting for. if this is ok with everybody, would you consider releasing it after the voting is over? :)

when i say original guis, i mean one that wouldn't give you away. so would you, all of you i mean, be ok with your submissions having somewhat different guis than your usual?

I don't know, that sounds silly to me. None of this stuff is formed in a vacuum. Developers and their personal style and the way people receive them are all part of the package. Anyone who thinks code exists outside of the rest of the crap in the world is missing the point. I vote keep rules as simple as possible, that'll ensure maximum return.

Hi,

The downside is, Synthedit it's basic controls are not very nice and a bit big. Also font colours 'n stuff are not very nice.
I normally don't want to use them in any plugin, only when i'm lazy :P

So, i would vote against it.

Also it's not very hard to see in what develop enviroment it was made.
Everybody knows the basic SE controls, so the few ppl that will use SE for the contest will not be entirely anonymous.
Same goes for Synthmaker i guess.

And ppl using the VST SDK would have no controls or GUI, just the basic controls or GUI the host provides.

Maybe provide every contenter with the same set of control graphics ... Then everything is nearly the same i guess.

so far for rules i have:

submissions = free for all

any platform, any type (pc, mac, instrument, effect, emu, pm, standalone, se, sm, c++, host) anything goes... as long as it's developed for the purposes of assisting with music making, it's in. i'm not sure about sample packs because they might be hard to d/l for some.

submissions will begin june 15th and end september 14th.

submissions will be sent to me and i will hold onto them until the release date.

all submissions will be released on september 15th for public voting.

voting will end september 30th. ***might change depending on the amount of entries. if there's a hundred, obviously we'll give more time for people to play with them.

people have to vote for all entries from highest to lowest.

winner(s) will be announced on october 1st or 2nd and first place will get $500.00. :)

in case a dev needs a beta tester, they will contact me and i will direct them to a beta tester.

:p

This rule sounds to me like commissioning Jackson Pollock to paint you a picture, but then asking him to ease up on the drips a little and throw in a rococo cherub or two.
