HI,

I am trying to vocode using plugins in Live. Couldnt get Orange Vocoder to work using samples as sources for modulator and carrier.

Which ones are you using?

Thanks.

Post

Dunno about Live but I'm using OV on a daily basis - it's simply the best vocoder out there. What problems do you have exactly? Did you try their tech support or the forum?

Usually they are very fast to respond (they did to my post on a Sunday!)

In the manual it says there should be 2 different plugins: voc.carrier and vocoder. I just cant see the carrier portion, so i only see the vocoder plugin with its interface. Can you see both in your host? which is it?

Post

No that was until version 1.5 or so. They dropped the carrier plug-in after that, apparently because it had problems and you could only use one instance of the plug in at the same time.

If you need an external carrier just use the left input of the plug in, and pan everything hard left. Vice-versa for voice input - everything should go to the right input of the plug in.

Thanks i'll try that way, AFAIK there's no better vocoding plugin than this. If so, people let me know.

I don't think there is, and I've heard them all.

Happy vocoding!

Computer Music mag just did a tutorial on how to setup thier own free CM Vocoder (the same one borrowed from FL Studio).
Setup one audio track for your modulator source/wav, then another track for midi/carrier signal. Both could be midi/vsti tracks I assume too. Then setup a 3rd AUDIO track with the vocoder on it. In the audio routing ("Send Audio to" options in the track panes, once all is setup, send both mod/carrier to track 3 with the vocoder. Depending how the vocoder is setup, you might have to set the track pans, one extreme right the other extreme left if the vocoder doesnt have right/left carrier/mod input options. Make sure the carrier goes to the carrier input in the vocoder etc. Now on the vocoder 3rd track, for input routing, there should be "In", "Auto", and "Off". Click the "In" so it turns orange. All your audio should output through the vocoder track vocoded provided you have two signals coming from both the 2 other tracks. I know Orange has a built-in synth/carrier so I'm not exactly sure how to use that in conjuction with that setup, but if you are vocoding two external signals, I think that should work.

OrangeVocoder works exactly the same way, so you shouldn't have a problem.
