Oh, it'll be dead easy, but I might have to do some things with regard to autogain etc when using the sidechain detector instead of feed-forward/back detectors. Thanks for the kind words as well :)

Post

The sidechaining compressor I use now is rather vanilla, which is not always bad, but sometimes you want vanilla, and sometimes you want pickles.

New version of the compressor:

changes:
- Logarithmic cross-over control (much more range now as well)
- Logarithmic ratio knob, much better control for ratios < 10:1
- Out knob now adjust output from -18 to +18dB, used to be +/- 50 :)
- Minor tweaks for the Opto mode that previously resulted in quite weird output levels

Got a new version of the EQ coming as well, but I gotta run now, time for pinball night...

Synthmaker stuff don't seem to work in Linux as its for winXP or win2000, not win98.

Pity some coders ignore the Steinberg recomendations and build OS specific VST's.

The gain reduction meters dont work in opto mode when used in Reaper or Samplitude.

Otherwise very nice!

Thank you for this marvellous compressor :) :) :)

Tried it on vocals,piano,drums,submixes,mixes.....sounds FANTASTIC!
It goes from transparent light compression to heavy scorching squeezing vintage pump!
And does it with class: no artifacts, simple controls, light as a feather on CPU-usage.
Has a sound of it's own.
Plus...for now it's FREE!!!
When u c how much some big-name-developers charge for dynamics plugs that do the job OK but don't sound as good as lo-budget hardware dynamics!(I have a Tapco SQUEEZ!,amongst other dynamics hardware processors, that does a better job than some expensive software plugz in terms of smoothness, warmth, character!Yes),these plugins from Synthmaker should be at least tried and then kept amongst your better VST dynamic plugins.

These plugins are the proof that quality results for software don't necessarly depend on the newest/hippest technology and fancy-design GUI, but on true high-level creativity with the tools you have, period.(There are LOTS of excellent free/shareware out there, but let's keep it at Synthmaker now)

May this creative vision inspire a lot of programmers(big name & underground) to provide new plugins that take the average-& pro-computermusician/arranger/producer's wallet into account, (in this case, with Synthmaker's beta's,it's a big gift;think about it!)not only thinking about maximizing the profits of their achievement, but to offer great quality at a decent price: after all how many of us(musicians,composers,arrangers,producers...) could claim they earn sufficient money with what they do to buy most of the new VST-fx/instruments they need, working day after day to provide better and better artistic results, while with all the "music-download-why-should-I-buy-a-record?" problem, most of us have middle/not much/zero income; the biggest incomes being concerts,or publishing rights if you own a publishing/record company, but for the rest it's pretty though.I don't think some developers/companies deal with that aspect.

I salute the Synthmaker team, thanx for the good work and the opportunity for everybody to benefit from their efforts.

Also lots of respect to the other developers/makers of softs with the same vision: you know who you are!

May the music be with all of you,

Knob ranges are much better now :D

Only a brief test so far, but downward opto compression seems not to do anything anymore..? (Tested in Tracktion.)

Indeed, will have a look immediately!

And oh, thanks for that mega-superlative praise saxophonick!

Hi
Just a little suggestion :
The comp has now taken more and more features since the previous versions, so the gui now is a bit crowded, because there is more knobs, but it is not bigger... I don't like big gui, but here, it might need to be 10% bigger, maybe... ?

Post

The compressor's size is OK, I think the EQ could benefit from some size enhancement. Thanks for these plugs though, stefan

Post

I agree with sinkmusic.

me, too, i think both plugs would benefit from a larger gui ... ;)

Hi

I have just been testing a little bit the comp in Live 5,2.
It still take about 10% cpu on my laptop P4 @ 2,6ghz, 512ram, which is too much for the moment.
The Gui does not need to be very big (big gui's are ugly !), but just 10%, whith som many things on it, it could be more clear to read.

And maybe you could separate a bit more every section, to get even better "readability" (i mean, just put a bit more down the 3 lines "vca/opto, compress/expand, down/up"), in order to keep standard knobs with standard knobs, and otional tweakings with otional tweakings. Just my 2 cents.
And maybe 5 or 10% bigger.. ?

Inmy opinion, it is a bit a pity not to have more presets to better reach quickly all the features of the comp (for some newbie, and even me, the difference between opto and vca sound, and when to use it is not always obvious. So 10 vca presets (for beats, acoustic, pads, mixdown, etc.) and 10 other for opto (for vocal, bass, etc.), could be a nice start point....
?

About the eQ :
I'm also looking for VERy basic but efficient presets like extreme low frequencies cut (below 25hz), etc.
Implementing some of those presets could help to start with the eq, too (even if many presets are not neede, but it is more a quick way to get the filters set, and then adjsut the Q and freq.)

cheers
