Any advice on the best, quickest program to record and edit samples. I make samples of my drum kit and percussion then dump them into Fruity Loops and Reason.
I've been using Audacity and it works, but wondering if anyone knows of anything else to check out. Don't need nothing real deep as I process them with other programs, just a nice way to input, record, and edit the samples--chop, crop, set start & end points, raise levels, ect...

On mac as the user i am, as a very quick and effective "bread and butter" editor ( and though it is discontinued ) i appreciate Soundmaker from Micromat a lot : it load nearly instantaneously all the editing operation are very effective and short
Otherwise Dsp-Quattro at a higher level of sophistication is also a very impressive and stable audio editor, that support VST and AU as Audacity does
( But i'm afraid there both maconly applications as much as i know...)

I forgot...otherwise it may be useful for you to turn your samples into REX2 files ( dumped Drum kit and percussions into FL or Reason )

I still use CoolEditPro (now Adobe Audition) for basic editing of samples, wavs and such... Does about everything you want fairly easy, right out of the box. Audacity is another one to look into (for free!)

You can get the LE version of Bias Peak for $60-$70 at the store. The LE version is still really powerful, and comes with a light version of Toast(at least version 4 did). That's what I use on my Mac, and I have never needed anything else, even for some more difficult tasks.

audacitys prob as good as it's gonna get for free, but since you only want some looping and truncating basicly FL can do that and anything editor wise is not going to be that much different than audacity....
should get recycle though, or beatcreator and start makin moves with those rexfiles, then get Fx pansions Guru...after remind yourself to eat and sleep

Koolkeys: I'm curious - what do you need Toast for? Every Mac can burn CDs in OS X now...
Also, I personally think that Peak s#cks big time GUI wise. It doesn't have a good workflow and is very complicated and counter intuitive to use. At least for me

None of the free or cheap audio editors are very good when it comes to editing at high zoom. I use Sound Forge v6, and its zoom is absolutely fantastic. I haven't tried Wavelab in a long time, and last time I used Audition it was still CoolEdit, so maybe they have equal or better zooming now.
Audition has really cool spectral editing features, so that may be a plus.
