Does a Yamaha XG VSTi/DXi SoftSynth exist? either free or commercial?

If so can someone point me to a link? I've searched alot both here and on yamaha sites and haven't found one. I'm looking for something that can software emultate the XG sounds of an old Yamaha QY-70.

sorry does that mean there is no XG VSTi and to do that I'd need to find a soundfont player VSTi and that soundfont? Can you recommend a VSTi Soundfont player? I've never used any. and do you have a link to where I can get that soundfont commercially or free? (not sure if it is freeware or not)...

hmmm couldn't track that down... I couldn't tell if it is a VSTi or not and most of the downloads I found linked off that seem to be for only win95 not xp.

Any other hints on an XP win compatible XG softsynth?

btw - I heard your golden aset vst and it sounds cool. I may have to get it... :)

Yeah, there is a VSTi version of the S-YXG50 but AFAIK it only ships with Yamaha's music sequencing software called SOL2. It supposedly only works within SOL2 but if you're feeling brave enough (or foolish enough :wink: ) to download the demo here...

...and try it out, who knows, maybe the VSTi will function in other hosts...
(Note: I accept no responsibilities if you try this and your computer freaks out... but I imagine you won't even be able to install it without a Japanese version of Windows... perhaps I'll try it out first and report my findings here... But don't hold your breath! :hihi: )

edit: Actually you can just download the VSTI trial by itself if you select "Disk 29" from that long list of zip files on the left (it's written デイスク２９ if your browser knows Japanese... :oops: )

edit again: It installed fine, the setup is in English (but the setup's default VST folder is some weird Yamaha VST folder; it takes a bit for the setup to point to the VST folder you specify)
It works great in FL Studio although being a trial version the sound fades in and out for a second every once in awhile... oh well...

Just under halfway down the list is 'bennetng_AnotherXG' soundfont! This is the only XG soundfont I have ever found on the net: http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php?logino ... letype=sf2 Oh! And it's FREE!

really, if you want to use sf2 you can use any good GM sf2.
what makes XG for some people interesting is that tweak ability.
anyway, you can buy a XG sound card very cheap.....
otherwise, you could simply use any General MIDI VSTi.

thank you yagushi! But if you remember that xg50 softplayer from 1997 than you remember a great demo with magnificant distorsion and wah elguitar. How can we use those sounds?

right, this is what xg is all about and what makes the big difference to the Roland General MIDI.

you cannot achieve this by using sf2.

I have just been checking the Internet,
but as it looks like nobody really cares any more about these soundcards.

today you have many much better options in the VST world.

just be creative, look around and try out the many of free and commercial VSTi.

I'd say something like Luxonix Ravity or Hypersonic 2 might be your best bet for a modern equivelent.

At about $2 each, I might just pick up the lot of five YMF724 soundcards for myself!

edit: @ aMUSEd: I think the whole idea is to get that "vintage" Yamaha XG sound as opposed to the Luxonix line which I'm under the impression sound more like Roland GS sound modules... but then again, is the difference between GS and XG really that great? I've never tested it for myself... (but I absolutely love that cheesy XG "Slap Bass 1"! :love: It's so TMBG à la "Santa's Beard", etc...)
