So, I am mixing this record for my friend. He programmed all the drums in FL studio and basically recorded bass and guitar as horrible DI'ed as possible.
I have been polishing stuff to actually sound quite decent (guitar/bass could easily be re-amped), however I have come to an end as far as the drums go.
At first I painstakingly added dynamics to the drum-tracks by re-trigging them with ApTrigga, using deliciouly multi-layered samples, and then controlling the audio-input volume, or simply via random sample-selection. It ended sounded really good imo.. almost convincingly real.
Problem is, he doesn't like the change in sound.. so I am stuck with his single-layer samples.
So the question: Is there any existing plug-in designed for this purpose - to add some life and "randomness" to a sample?
I have fooled around with phasers etc. but they can only be used sparingly not to become obvious. What about something more like a wave-shaper/distorter/sound-warper that is triggered by an audio-input? Does something like this exist?
I'd really like to mix this project without having to listen to these static drums all the time..
How to "vitalize" single-layer drum-samples?

How about copying the waves he is using and then doing some subtle EQ and re-pitching on them. One or two extra samples for each drum that sound mostly like his original sounds should make a difference. A sort of multi-sampled kit.
Oh, and, it's about his music. It's not about you.

Yes. But I am looking for something that will do this automaticallyHow about copying the waves he is using and then doing some subtle EQ and re-pitching on them. One or two extra samples for each drum that sound mostly like his original sounds should make a difference. A sort of multi-sampled kit.
Sure, and it's good music. But it's going out commercially and I just want to enhance what is there, as any good AE. It shouldn't be tiresome to listen to.Oh, and, it's about his music. It's not about you.
