My guess is that he buy those device at 50 and sell them at 400. (Adding the name on the box...)

That's a real shame. I bought my stuff a while back but recently picked up Finis for $69, I think. I think this company really should have at least given a note to their consumers about this before it happened.
I wouldn't buy these (or any) plug-ins for the new price, though. Luckily, my computer is new, and I already have ILOK if needed.
I've been getting away from the use of Firium. Eqium was a great plug, as was Neodynium. Finis I have yet to really utilize. Still great plug-ins, but I'm thinking people will move in the direction of other great plug-in manufacturers (and hope those don't fail/sell)--PSP, Voxengo, and Kjaerhus--my favs.

Like most I feel sorry what happens here. I have their plugins and really enjoy them. So it is quite hard that there is no more future development on that end.

But the situation was too nice to be true - great, innovative, intuitive plugs for a fair price, with great CRM, not painful copy protection,etc.
I was pretty worried because if a company does the special sale fore Inspector XL ways longer than planned, stops it and shortly put it on sale again and then the "customer appreciation sale" - well, that did not look too promising to me.
I think they rather had to sell to make money (I mean, to be able to survive), so, most of use would to the same thing if it gets really hard. As Urs mentioned it would have been nice to sell to someone that is oriented towards the customer base (well, I do not know their customer base, but I do not thing that more than the half of it would appreciate to deal with this new guy, his prices, his design and his copy protection).

I am a bit concerned as bullocks Apple with their endless transitions will break the compatibility sooner or later. At the moment the plugs are working so I should better keep that system for a while.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention here is the difference between a legitimate price increase and a ridiculous one. For example...Ohmforce....Those guys had excellent plugs, at cheap prices...download only of course, with no distribution that wasn't performed themselves....when they were "bought out", they really incurred larger expenses....boxed versions cost money...so does distribution, marketing, etc...they joined the big league, and that move must be paid for...so the prices took a hefty jump...this is a legitimate price increase though....completely understandable....HOWEVER, this price increase, is a farse at most...as far as I can tell, the distribution method has not changed....download links are emailed to you no? The ONLY thing that could possibly incur a price increase would be the ilok protection, due to licensing fees..however, ilok does not cost the dev an extra 299 dollars per plug...this is an example of a ridiculous price increase, with no real justification except for greed and stupidity. This man is no artist in my opinion...it's strictly business...and terrible business at that...it's a slap in the face to any customer if you ask me. Integrity has left the building folks.

If he's 'pro' he will likely be targetting the plugs at other 'pro's' or wanna-be 'pro's'.
Ilok & insane prices are standard.
I dislike the way the blurb seems to be making them out to be 'his', as if he's some kind of dsp expert who coded them himself, the great (yet apparently grumpy) mad genius.
That may be a wrong impression on my part though.
It's just one more completely dishonourable move in business practice that i've seen this week (where I work there's plenty of that going on at the moment due to a takeover).
It is shit.

Earlier in this thread I called Mr. Nichols senile, that may be unfair, but that may be close to truth.
In 1997 I was making my move from an analog to a 16 bit digital studio. I needed help, there was little information on the web, so, on a whim I emailed Roger Nichols. He was beyond generous, and I thank him for all he did to send me down the right path.
He does know his stuff, there is no doubting his credentials, but like so many very intelligent humans, he has gone off the rails here.
Pattern recognition, attention to details, these are survival skills (valuable for musicians/engineers), but it's a fine line. If you don't see enough patterns in the data stream, you'll burn your hand on the stove every day, or marry the same type of abusive ass again and again... we call that stupid. If you see too many patterns, you believe your new dental filling looks like a crucifix, aha! your dentist is a Nazi, crop circles are sending you messages... we call that crazy.
Intelligent and sane is a very fine line to walk. Mr. Nichols seems to have stumbled. I hope his plugin venture fails, his business model is poor poor poor, but I do wish him luck on a personal level.

Well, I know that's the name of the game: companies merge and get bought, look at what happened with Steinberg being bought by Pinnacle being bought by Yamaha (wasn'it like this?).

In this case it's much much worse. I feel sorry for those who have purchased in the last weeks: I could have been one of them as both Firium and InspectorXL appealed me a lot. Of course they can use the versions they got, but it sucks big time that they'd need to shell out much more and get tricked into that iLok POS for getting upgrades.

I hope with all of my heart that this Nichols grandpa fails miserably. I also hope the guy at EA will keep on working as an independent developer. T

I think we all should learn from this and prevent those scenario by supporting the small, genious developers like Kjaerhus, Voxengo, Wusik etc. even more: I may not be that wrong by saying that one of those three might be the next 'victim' in this shitty game.
