Seems to me, truth of the matter is that it could happen to any dev/company at any time. Sometimes it works out really well ("S'up, René...") or not so well, as in the present case apparently. (And yes, the amount of delusion present throughout those sites is kinda staggering. Anyway, wave enough cash at most people at the right time and they do what they need to do. For earth's sake, people, start remembering these are liscenses, and liscenses expire. Either lock your machine off as "good enough to do what I need and then some" or realize that some investments aren't going to work out so well for your particular bottom line.
